#1 Oldest 1200's

With the talk about the oldest Datsun, I was wondering, what are some of the oldest 1200's you all know of, still running or still saveable? And the body style. Mines a 9/'70 US 2 dr sedan vin # 143339. I think that's the oldest one I've had or seen over here. How about in AU?

Do AU cars have the vin stamped on the top left firewall too? We also have a info plate on the top right firewall & another plate @ the left B pillar @ the door strike. (drivers side in US) Is this the same in AU? Does anyone know if the eng & trans were stamped with the vin # too? I've been watching the Barret Jackson auctions, and the "matching numbers" cars always go right to the top. Did Datsun tag the specfic drive train to the specific body as (some) US manufacturers did?

Ok, we should limit this contest to B110 Datsun 1200s, model year 1971 is the oldest, though sold starting in 1970.

Here in Oz we have to types of tags,
1 oz ones

two plates one that states the body number, engine number, serial number, model and paint code.
the other is the id tag the australian transport one. it has all these codes design rules, year built, seats and vin number

Body number stamped on the Lefthand strut tower.

The jap one have two plate one with body number, engine number, max hp,wheel base and engine capacity the body number is stamped near the left bonnet hinge. the other is the oz transport one

Dattodevil....that means there are 5,695 1200's made between just ours! Where the Hell did they all go!? It's amazing that so many cars can be made, and so few survive.

Good info oan878. I was wondering about that.

Do the AU cars show minor differences changing about mid '72, or is it just the US? Like rocker trim, bumpers, lic lights, "fasten seat belt", brake parts or ? In the US, I know that our Dept of Trans(DOT) forced many manufacturers to change crash & emissions parameters about then.

no didn't you yourself cut up more than a few 1200s? That's where they went ... I myself behind the wheel of a forklift personally put some in the crusher. But I have turned my life around.
