For 10 bucks..you could buy a spanner and a new thermostat.. I think you should forego to McDonalds Value meals and sort it out

Cheers

If top hose is hot,(how hot) sounds like the thremostat is atleast open to me. Cant see putting a new one making the engine run cooler.

the temp reading is of the stock dial so im dubious of its accuracy to say the least, however, the top hose is hot to touch and the bottom coolish to the touch. im not at home so its hard to fix with no tools or sealant available.
If not the thermo what else could it be?

ps dont eat maccas or much fast food so saving 10bucks is not an issue seeing i replaced it 1 month ago and had no troubles till this morning.

well if it is not circulating it could either be the water pump, or an extremely blocked radiator. but waterpump would be my first guess.

Like Dattodevil said, I would be checking the water pump.
Is your fan belt still attached? Normally the charge light would come on, but your alternators are known to fail aren't they?

Sucks your at work. I would take Ange's advice and limp it home watching the guage.

fan belt is still attached and the charge light did not come on at all (ive fixed that problem was a dodgey regulator and alternator).... 1200rc sugested could be dodgey temp guage as car has not lost water or vented steam... just feels hot on the top hose..
will limp it home but have no time till after next weekend to fix it.
It annoys me if its the wqater poump as it was new 4yrs ago when engine was rebuilt (but then it sat for 12months).

Its perplexing.

well 35 years of quality datsun factory quality control reared up its ugly head once more... because one fuse had blown, someone at one point in time had bridged power to the dash with SPEAKER WIRE from two other fuses, this caused 3 FUSES to blow at once., but before they blew they played havoc with th e electricals in the dash etc..... wrong readings on temp, fuel and tacho (tacho was reading 4-500rpm out, ends up it did idle at 700rpm, not 1100rpm!)...
well all fixed now and no probs, thanks to a friendly road side assist employee who was actually a qualified auto sparkie (only 27 yrs of age and doing it for extra cash on the weekends to fund his series 4 rx7 20b motor transplant!). He fixed it all for free! Had a chat too, coupe might cop either blue or red respray now, after his friendly chat.

good to hear you got to the bottom of the problem, sometimes it's just easier and less time consuming to let the experts look at it, and in this case it was cheaper. Well done
