yeah reset them and reset timing is a big improvement but still a faint missfire (hard to notice)i set them at 0.55mm im gunna try and reduce it a bit more maybe 0.50 or even 0.45. i think it has a little bit of normal grease on the cam is that goin to effect it much?im gunna go try n find me a cheap meter through the week when have time to get things a bit more accurate. cheers phunk!

Yeah the grease is meant to be there. Its there to help the nylon bumper in the points to easily slide over the cam without wearing. A dab of grease is a good thing when changeing points.

You are gonna have to continue checking things.
One things for sure, if playing with the point made no difference, buying new points and a dwell meter isnt going to either.

Greendog-

Problem starts around 1/4 to 1/2 throttle...idle and full throttle good...problem goes away when engine is warmed- up...

Verify correct carbie float level and switch operation.

i dont think the bosch gt40r is for ballast resistor type or external reg set ups... im using one with electronic igniton but when used it with normal points dizzy i had hiccups as well depending on fuel type i used (was tuned for 96 octane but caltex vortex always caused backfires).
try another coil first (2nd hand one) and possibly spark plug gap (try 0.8) or leads... it sounds like an ignition problem to me.

also points can be dud sets, and if timing or ignition is bad, can burn and pitt them quite easily, do you give them a light sand with an emery board before resting and instaling the points?
