easiest way i've found, particularly if the car is junk,is to drop the crossmember, engine, gearbox, manifolds etc, onto the ground, get 3 or 4 people at the front, then lift the body up & over the engine, gearbox etc.& pushl the car back.the front of the car is lighter, particularly with the struts out, than the engine.i learnt this method from practical experience.

there are 6 bolts that hold the trans to the block, 2 bolts for the starter, 2 bolts for the clutch slave cylinder ( i think you have a cable or something to undo), also there is a plate between the trans and block (at least my car has one) and there are 3 additional bolts that hold the lower half to the front of the trans.

Hey 1200rallycar! it would be funny to see most of these guys work hey!

Fair enough there is never any need to rush but talk about making a little job seem hard!

I'm not really that passionate about this subject! but it does make me laugh!
In the end i supose as long as the engine gets out and nobody is hurt! Any way is OK!

Ive hit a bit of a snag with my plan. I was going to use the Quickcut to cut out the front part of the sedan just to help out a bit so we dont have to lift so high over the rad support etc.

I said to my Captain that it would be a great "Training" job for the boy's and I even offerd to buy the Disk for it but he wouldent be in it because it isnt op training, Bugger !!

This might be a bit boring to some but for some of us this is kind of new and any info is good and if we can have a laugh on the way why not ?

Also as a OHAS rep so thats why I asked about just lifting out the motor, will give it a go though .

oh that's right, i forgot that you were a firefighter. I sure with all the extracation devices at your disposal you could have fillet that car in no time at all.
That would have made for an interseting picture.

Sometime's its handy to have some of our gear on hand , but the fire service is a little differant over here. We have some extracation gear but not much ( in my area anyway), we usally leave this work to the SES ( State Emergancy Service) who cut & pull a wreak apart and get a patient out then we all help to get to the Ambo's ( Paramedic's ).

But in some parts of the State's & elsewere the Fire Dept does the lot, hooray for cross training !!

Andrew
