i am only gonna choose 1 out of 2 motors for my datto 1000 ute. An E15et or A15et. what one would be better, my plans are to have forged pistions, bigger turbo, fuel and ignition computer, bigger valves ect.. i recon the E15 is the way to go but i just wanna know other peoples opinions. (bye the way i might be MattoRX7 but my heart lies with Datsuns, u just cant treat a mazda like u can a good old Datto)

I am thinking A15. Would be easiest to actually install.
I don't have any reason other than that though.
Aparently you need to cut the firewall too with an E15T.

Since you are going to re-design either one, might as well use the A15 as a base, it fits easily as Lobster said.
If you were talking about stock E15T vs A15T, no contest: there never was an A15T.

i tend more to think the E15 cause its already turbo'd which means i dont have to make a oil feed or oil return also the E15 is OHC. i found out from Peter Hall that aparently the A series g/box does fit.

But the E15 is for front wheel drive. And when you fit it into a RWD the distributor sticks out of the back of the head into the firewall. Would be alot easier to use the A series block. I agree on the OHC idea......but you can't have everything.

I have heard, & experienced, nothing but good stuff about A series. They might be only a basic pushrod design, but you can't kill 'em with an axe.
I have not experienced an E series, but have heard only "uncomplimentary" things about them, so if it were me, i would remember the old line, "When you're on a good thing, stick to it!"

hmmm, surely the E15 ET is going to be a better base for a turbo setup. Everything is there for a start, all you'll have to do is improve a few things. If you do an A series, you'll have to make everything, including manifolds for it. There isnt a turbo headgasket available, there isnt a high capacity oil pump, you'll be fabricating for a long time...
The ol A series (for all it's good points) isnt a crossflow engine, and non crossflow turbo setups are simply awfull.

the money you are going to spend on fabricating either one of these engines(both being an unknown experiment), wouldnt you be better off purchasing a second hand ca18det. At least you know it does work and it would always make more power than the other two. Just something to think about...

Sorry just realized you were talking about a 1000 ute ,I'm not sure whether you can do the ca 18 conversion in that ute...What about the ca16.
