Whats involved with the Pulsar dizzy conversion? I ran a search for more info, but found nothing. Sounds like a good thing to be doing. Cheers...

I'm surprised that a search found nothing as this has been a common topic,anyway it's really easy.I bought an E15(non turbo)dizzy and a CA20 High energy coil.Firstly you swap the blade drive on the pulsar dizzy for a gear drive A series one,just knock the locating pin out and drill the pin hole out to suit the larger A series pin.Then take the A series dizzy adjuster plate and adapt it to fit onto the pulsar dizzy,some filing and drilling of new holes required to make it fit and to be able to adjust timing.Finally stick the pulsar dizzy in your A series motor and forget about points for good

Is the advance curve the same between the A15 and E15, if different can you swap the counter weights over?

does the engine perform better with electronic ignition? better spark?

I work at Dick Smiths and have made and used the cheaper of the two ignition kits we offer......it is a good thing....it improves cold starts (you won't need your choke on as long) and your points last ages as its only a very small amount of power that goes thru them (just enough to act as a trigger) once this kit is installed. However it still only gives you 6000-7000 volt spark.

Crane cams make a points to electronic ignition conversion kit that is a VERY good thing. Comes with all the bits u need. Plus u use a real coil (a full 12v type not the one that needs a ballast resistor) Takes about an hour to fit and is dead easy. I get an extra 50km out of a tank of fuel with this ignition installed. And the ute has a heap more get up and go. (probably because it now sparks 30000V instead of only 6000V !!!!)

There was a story about the Crane kit in HOT4s mag about 5 years ago....it was installed on a bog stock 1985 1200 ute.....before kit was installed 26hp at the wheels....after kit was installed 33hp at the rear wheels.....thats a 25% gain !!!

Also...u never have to adjust points again....YAY!

No wonder my old 1200 seemed gutsy even with only 78kW at the wheels.

Just wait chris when your Ca starts pounding 200kw at the treads it will feel pretty grunty then

it was on a dyno dynamics dynamoneter....don't they usually read lower than other dyno's ??

So the E15 dizzy still runs with a ballast resistor? i am interested to know as I have just completed converting one and am about to drop it in. so does anyone have that part of the pulsar wiring diagram then?

there is a pic of what is needed on this website. I have kept the ballast resistor. All u do is hook the black cable to the POSITIVE coil terminal, the other cable, blue? to the negative. U also need to hook the tab, near the vacum advance unit to earth.
