Speaking of practicality, if that's out the window why not turbo a QR25DE? It's lighter, yet 25% bigger and the head flows more than the SR20. Sure, you'd want new pistons and rods. The only downside is that no one's done it yet ... so people doubt it can be done ...

I bought my top mount T3/T4 setup on Ebay. It's a log style so it's not the prettiest, but it will work. You can find them on Ebay usually, or you can buy one new from JGS Tools http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/

What kind of parts are you looking for exactly? I doubt Nissan would still have anything for the Roadsters, they are really rare here and really expensive...even in bad condition! If you need Roadster parts I'd look at the various Roadster restoration shops in the US, they have everything you need to restore them and way cheaper than anything you'll get here in Japan.

The Datsun 1200 you can still get some mechanical type stuff from the dealer, only because they produced the Ute until the 90's! You can't get stuff that's coupe or sedan specific really from the dealer, it's all gone!

Yeah, I've got the SR20DET 5 speed sitting in my room right now. Really it's not any bigger than the dogleg (B210) 5 speed, just a bit longer, and WAY heavier. You will need to modify the tranny tunnel if your 1200 was originally a Manual Transmission car. If you have an Auto with the wider tunnel, it looks like this tranny will fit without modifying much, if any. I don't know what other gearbox choices for the SR20 there are. The gearstick comes through a lot further back which I've heard is more comfortable anyway, you just have to move your E-brake back as well.

For the SR20 swap, try to buy as much lightweight type stuff as you can, cause any extra weight sucks! Get a lightweight flywheel, toss all the accessory equipment you don't need, get the driveshaft made up in aluminum, get rid of the stock exh. manifold, etc, etc. The SR20 stuff is gonna add a lot of weight, anything you can save is a plus!

Stock S13, S15 ball-bearing, T3/4 hybrid or ???

Well, my bro is selling me his S15 ball bearing turbine, but the manifold is for T3/T4 hybrid, so what I'm looking for is an equivalent to the S15 turbo, but T3/T4 style. I've looked at a few it's got to have: ball bearing design, both water and oil flowing, 360 thrust bearing, either Stage 2 or 3 on the ehxaust. I'd like it to give the better part of 300 rwhp, but don't really want anymore than 400 (right now). I saw a couple nice new Turbonetics for sale, I just don't know much about picking the right one that's gonna flow like the S15 turbine. The good news is that a new T3/T4 is fairly cheap compared to a nice T25/28 style.

The S15 turbine my brother is giving me is going to go on my 180SX. I rode in his 180 with that turbo and was quite impressed! Lots of low end, mid range, and top end! He's putting down around 300 hp with it right now and is going to an even LARGER turbo (T25R) so he's selling me all his old stuff so I can show the people around Yokota how it's done!

The other night I raced around with three Skyline GTS-T's for a few hours in my 180SX, and was surprised how well it did. Just can't wait for the new toys to arrive!

About the roadster parts; I'll give you the short version about my story. If you want the long one, I can send it to you by email as I think it's off topic here

During my restoration I worked with Nissan Belgium to get parts, with Nissan Motorsport USA and with most of the Datsun Roadster dealers in the USA. All the parts I couldn't get anymore through Nissan Europe (and only a handfull were still available) I ordered in the USA.
Due to shipping, and import taxes the price of the ordered parts became 3x expensier.
So restoring the roadster was a financial disaster.
Now that the car is nearly finished a discovered with the help from Nismo Japan, that all parts I ordered in the US are still available in JApan and even parts that are NLA in US are still available in JApan.
Long ago someone in the US and Europe decided to put all parts that are older then 20 years on a black list (NLA) to reduce the STOCK and COST. Parts with an NFS- not for sale- code were supposed to be special orders only. But poeple left and other came, and someone forgot to talk about special orders on NFS code. Still later NFS listed parts have even been removed from the importers database.
So you really need a good contact at a dealership in Japan to check with Nissan Motor Limited in Japan. Once I know that the part is available in Japan, I have enough in my hands to ask Nissan Europe to get the part as special order from Japan.

So if you cold help me with my parts, it would be a good resource for you and your roadster project too.

good idea..but too expensive, a Garrett Ballraced turbo prices range from AU$1300 to $2200.

So I think that EU2000 is too much.

A T3 doesn't directly bolt onto a SR20 or CA18, both of which use a T25 type flange. T3 normally refers to the size/shape of the exhaust flange, the T3 is more common on the RB20DET, and Skyline rb25 turbos. The GTR uses 2x t25 flanged turbos (similar to the SR20 or CA18).
