got the fine the mail 800$.. dam 2 weeks wages down the drain..
im still coming 2 grips with having no licence and walking past my ute everyday is hard not 2 get in it and take it for a spin.. the only possitive side is that i will have saved up alot on fuel and hopefully can do more hours at work.. 2 get my ute down 2 mike vine (APC) in brissy and further tuning and stuff done and be able 2 drink in the car will be awsome but i am a driver not a passenger... i like 2 be in control.. but i trust my mate driving my ute as he has a ca18det datsun himself..
it could of been worse i could of been doing about 200km on the HWY racing someone...

funny , this reminds me off my greatest feat of stupidity,(one of them anyway) exactlyfive years ago to the day .feb14 1999 , I was trying to impress this chick and I got up to 190kph in a 50. as I started to haul it down my radar detector went berserk , and too my absolute horror there was a police car parked on the side of the road !! to say that I sh1t myself would be an under statement. But there was noone in the car thank f*** for that.

I gotta say that there is a lot to be said for getting older and wiser.

My cop brother in law is on leave after having to attend a "murder by vehicle" (my words) last weekend.

Two cars dragging and one swerved as it lost or got traction. The car hit a 19 year old girl at approx 120 - 140 km/hr. This was in a 60 zone.

The pathetic defense "I didnt mean to hurt any one".

Well, this sort of thing begs the question: what is the purpose of a ~300hp ute? Is it for legal racing and for track days? or is it for illegal street racing and showing off? I know there are a few utes racing in Japan, but how about in Oz?

I don't know about racing Utes?, there's not many of them racing, but plenty on the street.

As I'm also doing a 300 HP project, I should be able to tell you. I guess you need to drive one to understand.

I've been driving my underpowered SSS Pulsar for too long, and I've forgotten what accelleration is.

I guess I'll be in for a good surprise when my project is finished.

But back to the question, I think the answer lies somewhere between

1. Wanting the biggest and the most powerful engine possible.
2. Wanting to maintain the outward image of a Datsun.

And if you do it yourself, it becomes an example of your personal ingenuity and perseverance. To pay someone else to do it doesn't rate very highly in my book.

My Dad always taught me, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Well even if you don't do it right, you have the pleasure of knowing you did it yourself.

Owning a car can be about the building of the car, and it can be about the driving of the car. (Or both). I don't respect many race drivers because of their "win at all cost" attitude, which normally leaves the car coming off second best. My car is part of the family, it's not an employee.

couldnt agree more
i have built up my first car with my dad which was a 1600 me and my dad built it up when i was 15 and first drove up and down the back street which HAD no kids in it.... or houses...
just me.... so it was safe and i learned 2 drive
i then looked forward 2 get a datsun ute trying for a bout 2 year everyone of them werent up 2 my standard.. rust ect.. half shuts ect till i finially got 2 build up a ute.. i mainly built this thing up for 1/4 mile times and 2 have some fun on the street safely.. and saved up for years 2 build a ute 2 what i want.. im happy with the performance its prolly abit over kill but i enjoy it..

i did 62 in a 50 zone n lost my license for it (p's)
i consider it lucky tho the amount of times i have been racing or excessive speeding, i always say " i always make sure its safe" but really wat is safe?
anyone else ever been the the illegal street races in sydney i been to a few, now they are crazy 454's in comaro's n #### i reckon of the 80 cars that went atleast 30 wernt street rego'd or engineerable i seen a motor hang out of the bonnet a good 600mm..
now these are not safe.. defineatly
i encourage legal drag racing but most of the ppl i no only race on streets coz they dont no how to get to the raceways n the stuf they have to go thru to race them...
in 2.25 months when i get my license bak i wil have my $10k and will be looking again for a ca18det 1200 ute.. and then i will say i have raced at a propper drag..

Yep, there is a time and a place for everything. Drag racing should really only be done on the track. But If someone is beside you at a red light who really looks like they need teaching a lesson .then maybe thats all good too. But I dont condone brainless <25s who drive it like they stole it all the time. When I was 20 odd I used to drive like I had a deathwish, but now only tap my car right out in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.
And when I finish building a car fit to put on the track Ill be doing it there instead.
