godabaute maybe its worthwhile having this john otter bloke have a look for you, or even speak to him to find out what to look for in the engine and its installation. Even if it is registered it might take to much work and money to get it engineered and without that its pointless for the street like you say. Even if you dont get done by the cops, what happens if you have an accident? say good by to your wages as your insurance company wont cover you.

Steve.

The coupe is nice. very nice infact. complete bare metal respray 13B extend port (which seems good as far as i know) it was an unfinished project he was gonna make it just for drags but its still licenced. only problem is hes been chopping up the trans tunnel and strengthening the chassis without getting approval first. so if i buy it.. and i think i might.. and i get pulled over buy the cops it will only be good for drags or curcuits. hmmmmm worth the risk???

Dodgeman makes a good point

does he? I guess I must have missed it

I guess he's telling godabaute to make sure it doesn't have a WWI aeroplane engine?

maybe next he'll warn us that this coup may actually be a pen for chickens and not actually a car at all...

As you well know, the original rotary design was so good, that once WW1 was over, it's never been used since, & with very good reason. They gave many a pilot the sh*ts, literally, as a result of all that castor oil flying around.

I guess that there is a formal name for the Wankel types to separate them from these rotary engines. I suppose it would be a Rotary Piston engine since it's the "piston?" that rotates.
Does anyone know for sure?

There was a rotary engine used in a moyorcycle once. It formed the hub & spokes of the front wheel. No clutch or gears. I think it was called "Magura" & it would have been a pig to ride with all that gyroscopic force in the front. Noisy too, with no exhaust as such.

Dodgeman makes a good point: The "rotary" engine was used in aeroplanes since forever. The "radial" is a similar design -- usually 7 or 9 cylinders arranged in a circle -- but the crank turns instead of the engine. But I think it's safe to say that "Rotary" with a capital R has come to mean the Wankel Rotary engine, invented by Felix Wankel and initially developed/controlled by NSU ... and finally perfected by Mazda! The new Mazda "Renesis" engine (voted engine of the year), compared to other engines of similar HP output gets equal fuel economy and low emissions.

So what are those engines that they flew in WW1 where the crankshaft was mounted to the airframe, & the crankcase & cylinders spun round with the prop.

This was a very common engine design that was used by all the combatants in those years. Now what was it called,......I know,.. it was called a ROTARY engine, because the whole engine rotated, & it had pistons in those cylinders, so i guess we can fairly say that rotary engines have pistons.

That means that the rotary engine has been well known since at least 1914.
