the clutch on my '74 120y coupe isnt disengaging!!!
this isnt anything to do with the pedal as i have disconected it from the pedal and am just having someone pull the cable as far as it goes.
it seems the lever on the g/box isnt moving as far as it should be.
can anyone think of what the problem is??

Did it happen suddenly , or did it develop? Dont be fooled by thinking you can pull the cable manually , its harder than youd think.
Check to see that the pedal isnt bentand that you are getting full travel. adjust ity all the way up and if it still dont worktry this, jack the car up under the diff. start the car in second gear . rev it up to about 4500-5000 rpms. put the clutch in then pull on the handbrake. (keep it nailed) If your problem is a stuck pressure plate this should unstick it. or else something else is wrong.
I once had a clutch pedal bend over and we couldnt shift gears without a crunch( all the way from dunedin to christchurch )

thanks, problem is, seeing i got a different (few years newer i think) g/box installed a while ago, the cable dosnt fit properly, the end of it fits on the clutch lever, but the end of the cable housing where it seats up agains the g/box dosnt fitin the hole.
ive never actually had the car moving, (bought it as a project a few months back)
i'll try and do the handbrake thing tomorrow and see if that helps.
any other ideas anyone??

My 140J had a broken pressure plate once, the diaphragm still operated ok, and the pedal was ok, but it had broken the face, so was just JAMMED in drive

If your clutch cable is the wrong size for for the gaerbox hole you wont be getting enough travel tyo disengage it. there are two or three different cables , get the right one before trying anything else.the sunny ones are longer than the 1200(110) ones.
I just changed mine. what sort of car is it in I may have a spare>

got it going today, relised we werent pulling the cable far enough, as the clutch dosnt actually come out until about the last cm of travel in the lever. so the g/box/clucth is fine.
just need to find a cable that fits.
only other thing is, when we had it going in 1st with the back jacked up, only the right wheel was moving, so i think the drums might be seized, anyone got any advice for unseizing them?
