Just to throw stuff in the works, I've seen late model studpattern heads with round ports, with the little water jackets at the bottom, (like the oval ports have)
I've drilled and tapped later model heads to fit early stud pattern manifilds..

well my delema is that I have an A12 sidedraught manifold, that I want to fit to an A15 head. now the ports aren't a problem because I can change that. I figure a solution to the mounting problem will be to drill and tap a hole, centre port, like the gx head that A14force has got. which is the original question I had. "are all GX heads set to take both manifolds, or just the one I've seen?"

actually dattodevil.. its quite the opposite (kinda). The thread was kind of confusing so i'll try explain it better.

When i had a look at my presumably A12 engine, i noticed that the intake manifold was the kind that fits on an A14/15. So naturally i got wondering as to whether my head was, in fact, larger than an A12.

However, upon closer inspection, i found that the head itself was a standard round port A12 head, which had been drilled and tapped to suit an A14 manifold. (why i dont know).

The moral of the story? I was wrong, everyone else was right .

so the conclusion is, if there is enough "meat" on an a12 manifold, then it can be ported to match the oval port. and the A15 head can be drilled and tapped centre port to suit. yeah?

I took off the manifold(s) and checked the head today. All you guys are correct, the ports are round and some other owner has drilled and tapped the head to fit the manifold.

The head has tapped holes where the normal a12 manifold was meant to bolt on .

Thanks for clarifying that. You would know better than me ... USA didn't get any A12 after 1973.

dd,

unless australia was an exception, i dont think the a12 had the new pattern. If you look at b120dat's original engine, the manifold seems to be the old pattern. However being an 80 model, this is a *new* engine, if that makes sense

Maybee that is right, but i haven't come across that as yet. Perhaps i'm still playing with stuff that is too old.
