I need a replacment diff for my 1200 ute with a CA18DE as i blew my centre the other day. A cheap LSD would be good as there are plans for a turbo, but ultimately i would like a secondhand, reconditioned or new, standard 1981 Datsun 1200 Diff. will travel.

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers Henry

I think that cheap LSD's to suit 145 diffs are like fairies at the end of the garden---they're real hard to find.

In your case, look at using a Stanza Diff.

If you blow that, don't come grizzling to me.

I would have thought "cheap" & LSD were contradictions in terms.
If you use the Ute rear axle assembly, & the diff from a Bluebird or Stanza, you should have minimal problems. Two ways to reduce the loading on the rear end is to either pump the tyres up real hard, or use skinnier tyres. Both will produce more wheelspin & reduce diff losses.
There are other ways, but thats two of them.

I reckon that if you want the acceleration, you need the grip(=traction).

Smaller tyres may be kinder to your diff, but they won't give the grunt.

Point well taken.
I had worked on the assumption that when he asked for a "cheap" LSD, then like many of us, he is not real flushed with cash. I figured saving the diff was more cost effective than suggesting an expensive upgrade.
Well, that was my logic anyway.

I Think the Rear Axel Carrier (did I get that right Dodgeman???) in question here is the H165, and LSD's for them are as rare as rocking horse sh*t. Unless you contact nismo which would cost you over $1300 including shipping.

You're doin' fine Demojob. The H165 should serve fairly well under the rear of a light vehicle like a ute.
I would have thought that you would lose an axle shaft before losing a diff. Never mind, H165's should be fairly easy to get if the 3.9 to 1 ratio is what you want.
