The resistor in the external regulator is for temperature compensation. As I am lead to believe helps the alternator charge at the correct voltage regardless of ambient air temp.

so if i put in an internal reg alternator do i need to do anything with these wires?

well you can use them as they will already have ignition and battery wires in, if you use your test light or multi meter you will be able to work out which.

ok cool, thanks for the info,

but just to be clear, if i just unplug the reg and put in an internal reg alternator, using only the wires on the old alternator, i will have no problem with charging or anything else?

thanks mate

how many terminals in the back of the alternator are there, and is there a label saying which terminal is which? most of the wires required should already be in the external reg connector.

there 2 wires connected, and also one plug with two prongs, so four wires total

looking at the wiring diagram i can see that most wires to the regulator are not neccesary, the only thing is the two wires that connect to the alternator cvia the plug labelled "N" and "F", these go to the regulator, and i pressume activate the charge warning light???, if i remove the regulator i can see that these wires wont work anymore

What sort of alternator are you using? you have to make sure you get it right first time or you will blow the internal reg too.
