#1 Maybe another idea.
Bad_Andy Posted on: 2004/3/23 5:00
Yeah, that does sound kinda complicated and a little out of my financial range right now. I mean the car runs so it's not imperative I get a new motor. But what about a more straightforward aproach to more horse power. How hard is it to just put in a larger Datsun motor like an A15, or something that is easily available in the States. With the car's weight, I'm not going for something too off the wall, just at least 100 hp.

Didn't mean to start new thread. Just refer to the question about the 13B in a 1200.

the A-series ar eprobably the easiest swap but knowing this if you pt in an A15 mounts will have to change slightly and you will need a better diff. but an A15 or A14 with bigger carb and say cam exhaust headers and some head work you'll have yourself a nice runner with a nice bit of power!
good luck and welcome aboard

or a draw thru supercharger setup....that will always be 'fun'

One cool thing. I just found out I am getting the car for free, so that's another $200 to work with. What about rebuilding the stock engine with stronger internals and adding a draw through turbo system and/or NO2? I know I would also have to upgrade the tranny and the differential, but I would have to do that anyways if I were to swap to a more powerful engine. Do you think this would be a comperable plan price, power and "coolness" level wise?

okay.
number one. fu(k the coolness factor. do what you want to do and see it through. (hey! that rhymes....) that is what get's cred. don't worry about if it's cool or not.
number two. what happened to the 13B idea?

OK, especially after checking out that link you sent me, the rotary idea is still in. Maybe not the turbo, just for price and maintenance sake. I'm going to be moving away to college in august, and the main plan is to get it visually acceptable and mechanially reliable. So i'm not going to have a lot of time to get into too big of a project My mom is going to drive is a couple times a week for me so it doesn't just sit. The other problem with the rotary idea is it sounds complicated and expensive. Now I think I can do most of my own work, so I'm guessing it will be possible (I have neighbors with the tools and I have a connection through a local shop, www.rmjmotorsport.com check out their drift 240's, one has a 280z front end conversion). I just need something almost like an instruction manual for the install to see if it's feasible. If not, I'm going to explore the idea of rebuilding the A12 with stronger internals and turbocharging it (the guy I'm getting it from has a 13 second turbo chevy van, and I think he could help me with). But first I have to get the car before it is time to dream.......
