Feral, Dodge or Harry do you know anything about renault engines? Or does anyone have any ideas of how good the specs are on the specs sheet on the link I provided?
Id be interested to see others views on these little alloy frog burners.

Sounds good from what you wrote D, hope you've got money to back you up though, as it sounds like an expensive project, not just instulation being all cutom, but the bell-housing and even minor part chasing is going to turn this into a long term project me thinks

good luck of course, would be awesome to see complete!

I have done a bit with Renault and early Peugot engines and they have always been good and very reliable if a little clunky. I owned a 1948 203 peugot (before A B or C models) for a while that had 16" wheels, sunroof and advance/retard on the dash.

They make good engines, but I work on datsuns only for a reason : )

Bloody hell, that new avatar is freakin' me out.

Sorry, but i didn't get called Dodgeman for playing with Eurocars. I have spent pretty much all of my wasted youth & adult life concentrating on my own favorite brand of Yankee trash & Jap spit, so i know my way around these moderately well. As for the rest, i'm afraid i'm not much help.

Sorry bout the Avatar Dodge but had to keep this one after I saw an article on chickens being mathmaticians and spacial geniuses. That stare of intensity at working out how large the worm is behind the camera lense hole must use up some massive pea brain energy.
Ok I know what you mean guys that its better to stick on what fits and is commonly available without dramas in our beloved dattos. Feral, dash iginition advance-retard shows how the french have always had some trippy stuff in their cars after all you just have to watch some of their movies to see theyve abused too many frogs (but would have been handy to have that knob to help with varying fuel quality and octanes of the time).
Since parts are not common here I can maybe take advantage of this possible project from the fact that quite a few donors are available at wrecking yards and Im sure Mike you have plenty of experience now of whats needed for non factory modifications especially with your latest TT project hey well if its any encouragement for ya the 1.4 litre versions of these engines produced 250 plus hp with similar bore and stroke as the a14 and 400hp in qualifying tune. In the Uk GTI magazine its getting more common to see these run 50psi to get over 400hp from these aluminium short pushrod engines.
Some of these cars are regular on the streets with this boost but Im sure they are grenades or short lived. However since the non intercooled 80s turbos things have improved in intake temperatures and anti knock sensor technology these things are getting some following. Im sure you will reach over 200hp if they hit 400+. The only difference in design apart from the conveniently located high position cam and short pushrods is the Dodge type hemi crossflow design. However Im sure your A will make some scary oomph, cant wait

Just found out a beauty

I wont need an adaptor from rod hadfield as the peugeot rear wheel drive 505gti will take the 800 series engine with the renault 20, fuego or 18 bellhousing that came with the both the 2ltr all alloy ohc cam and r800 series engines. This is due to Deuvrin manufacturing engines for both peugeot and renault under government legislation.
So its looking better all the time.
That should save me about 1k.

1) what car is this engine out of? the Renault....what?

2) kudos for doing something different. always good to see someone thnking outside the square. definitely a project worth seeing through.

3) nice score on that 505GTi bellhousing!

The bellhousing is a no go!!
I was misled but it removable and it looks like an adapter from bellhousing to box is possible instead of a complete new bellhousing.
The engine is the famous 807 series pressure die cast that weighs 18pounds bare block (just follow my links).
Its found in renault 16,17, 18 and fuego and 20s. Also in the rallye champion alpine a110 and various others such as specials like r8 gordinis and r12 gordinis.
This engine is no slouch either.
its hemi type head can take 44mm inlet valves and be taken up to 1980ccs.
In Holland one is producing 238hp at the flywheel and most race versions hit over 200 hp both in europe and in australia through colliers engineering in nsw.
Heres a site in french and english for the aftermarket parts available.
160hp can be reached without a sweat with the standard 1647cc 841 type engine and bruce colliers can get 167hp at the wheels in most customers cars with that capacity.
Pentroof design is very limited compared to this hemi crossflow stroke of genius.
http://www.mecaparts.com/Moteurs/R12page1.php3#ok
standard bore is 79mm and can go up to 87 with the special kit.
