THEBUZZ is right there is nothing wrong with rotors they make good power and are reliable if you treat them right.
I would go injected for sure and get it tuned buy the right people and it will be reliable as any other motor.
To this day the fastest car ive ever been in was a 1200 ute with a 12A Turbo it is the fastest 12A in AUS with a 10.33@139mph. #### it was quick!!!!

maybe my mate got told the wrong thing or somethin, i heard they classified rotors as double the claimed output???

I can't think of a better motor to put in a 1200

I have a 13BT in mine which is engineered to avoid hassles. Built properly and tuned by people who know what they are doing so that it will last for ages.

Its stories like these that give rotaries a bad name, people expect them to rev to 10000rpm and live forever without undertaking basic maintenance or preparation when building the motors.

Fuel economy can often depends on the tune the engine has, mine is tuned rich due to the fact it doesn't run a FMIC. However when you are making 300-odd kw at the engine, you cannot expect the fuel economy of an Excel

The best part is that after a bit of a thrashing it will pull up at the lights and purr like a kitten, rather than make noisy piston engine sounds

my mate had a 1200 sedan with a rotor in it, it wasnt all that bad on petrol unless your revving the hell out of it all the time, i dont like the idea of rotors in dats much either, id much rather a worked L's series or ca. stick with nissan. also his was an aspo 12a and he couldnt get it engineered anywhere cos they suppodely classify rotors as double wat they are or something like that. 12a being classified as a 2.4, thats what i was told anyway. also his seals were stuffed as is the case in alot of them, he couldnt rev it above about 5000rpm or it would bellow smoke. not much point in having a rotor if you cant rev it huh hahah.

you need to make sure you run top quality oil in a rotor, and change your filters every 5000klms religiously. if you keep it under 3000rpm while it's cold, and don't take it past the designated rev-limit, then a rotor will see you into the 200-250thou range - just like any other engine.

Man, I've heard lots of noisy Datsun engines. Likewise, Mazda rotaries are quiet if they have a quiet muffler on them, and noisy if they don't.

Fuel economy? Sure, if you get the power of a V8, you also get the economy of a V8. If you get the 69 HP power of an A12, you get the economy of an econobox. Take your pick.

Don't last a long time? Neither do A12s and A14s if they are revved hard all the time. Depends on how you treat them.

Do what you want. But if your dad and friends won't help build the car, then it's not much fun.

Me? I'm sticking with A-series engine.

A rotor A ROTOR!!! you dont say that word around datsuns.. i told u that... they belong in a mazdas so we can eat them in our datsuns rotors are cool but not cool in datsuns... be wise and get an L20 or a CA the fuel u will save will pay 4 a new datsun .. or 2
