Hy, I just checked this out,
http://www.autospeed.com.au/cms/article.html?&A=0206

....and it says that the L20B block can accept a Z18ET (OHC IFI engine with cross flow cyl head)...cross flow cyl head, it says these engines are very similar. What cars had the Z18 ET motor in the US, if any?
This sounds interesting, if I could get a Z18 cyl head, and put it in my 180B, that would be an improvement, and I could keep my L20B. Any comments will be appreciated.

s11 200sx/silvia 1980-1984?
s12 200sx/silvia/gazelle 1984-1988?
The earlier s12 turbos were the z18et twin spark, find the a turbo model WITHOUT the bonnet bulge, If its got the bulge it will be a FJ20et.
Some of these also came with CA-series motors, my z20s came out of a s11.

None.

Well, we did get the Z20E and Z22E? the Z22E would be an improvement and get you more CCs?

Doing the necessary modifications to use a "Z" head on an L block is kind of a waste of time. The factory already did it.

Jaime have you read this thread?

The Z18et head by itself is more or less the same as any NAP series 4cyl. head (that you readily can find in the junkyard) so basically you don't need to hunt down a rare Z18et (non-USA) head.

My guess is you want to keep your factory-installed L20b, so maybe someone like Feral Errol can advise you ...

You need to use the front timing cover as well.
Z18et's were delivered to Australia in limited numbers, mainly used as police cars in SA, in Bluebird form.
I played with Zeds a few years ago so my memory of all the tricks is a bit hazy, but it isn't too much hassle to mate a zed head to an L series.

Are you just interested in the head, or do you want the turbo to go with it?

as someone mentioned above the Z series head is a NAPS motor. That's Nissan Anti Pollution System. Not a terribly exiting performance proposition. You can get very good performance from the L series head, and your money would be better spent there.

I don't want to burst your bubble but......
....The Z series motor is in fact an L series engine with a cross flow head.
Yes there are some differences, but that's basicly what they are.
The USA got the Z20 Z22 Z24, where as the rest of the world also got the Z 18.
They came with carbs and EFI here, but no turbo.
Nissan Motorsports USA did a lot of testing as to which was better, and discovered that the L series head actually flows better than the Z series head.
This was due mainly to the fact that the Z series valves are at such an angle to each other that one can not use a long durration cam without the valves actually hitting one another.
The Z series engines were mainly an attempt to extend the life span of the L series engine while making it more emission compliant (read that enviromentally friendly).
The heads from either series will infact interchange so long as one also uses the respective timing cover.

Although the Z18 were are NAPS motor, and not performance based motor, the Z18's at Bathurst still weren't slow.
