yeah i agree with most, i reguard old school as big carb's lumpy cams, matt black bonnets, practical size rims (not these glow show 20" chromies) cars that are made to be driven hard and not just to look at. engines that have been built using bits and peices from there own era. i wouldnt classify a car with a 1uzfe old school because it isnt totally old school, it may look it but under the bonnet its new. A or L series dattos, bored, stroked, lumpy cams, twin carbs, rough idles.

yep, it's about cams and carbs, and era correct wheels. basically just using technology and styling of the car's era. definitely can't be old school with a modern engine! or modern styled wheels, modern paint colours. Not sure about white dashboards either...

I think that old school is something that is up to your own choice. Like I am going to put the A15 and the A series inj, then put on a turbo. It will also run the A series computer, So this is old school, but some will say its not.

All these theories on what defines "old school" are well & good, but unless there is some sort of standard definition, the term will reallly mean nothing, because everyone has a diferent idea. The first part of the term, "old" should be some sort of a guide, & lets face it, anything made since 1990 is so new it should still be under warranty. Without some sort of a standardised definition, the term has no REAL meaning at all. Quote: who_your_datty_1200 wrote: I think that old school is something that is up to your own choice.

Great thread!
I too believe the idea of old school is up to the individual. I consider my 1991 ute to be old school. Of course the engine's a 1979 unit and I've got 30 year old extractors and intake. I think of it (the essence of old school) more as a style though.... but there's some powerplant style points involved too. A CA or SR with webers would still classify as old school to me. I guess my opinion on powerplant is based on the presence of computer control.

Screw you Woddy If someone says that their car is Old School, & it doesn't fit YOUR idea of what is, & what isn't, then who is right? That applies to all of us. Without some kind of basic guideline, or definition, then everyone is right, & everyone is wrong, all at the same time. Are you naturally stupid, or do you have to work at it?
I think that 2332owner is on the right track. It's more of a style than a specification.
