#1 Rally Regs

Just wondering if anyone knows the regulations as to what sort of engines you can run in amateur rally divisions. I saw a mk1 escort in NZ with a 13B bridgeport on some video, but I recall someone saying here that you have to run an engine that was released originally with the car? so things like ke25 corollas would have an unfair advantage with a 16ltr twin cam 2tg to a 1200cc pushrod in a similiar weight chassis? can anyone enlighten me?

The rules.NZ motorsport home page Just click on newcomers and this should help.

All depends on what type of event you are going to enter. Like classic rally you need a car that ONLY has pre 1982 parts or options. So a 1200 with a 1400 is a no no cos the 1200 never come out factory with a 1400, but you can run twin carbs and a 5 speed. They are about to tighten up the rules for classic soon.

Rules for other classes like club sport are pretty much free, like my Datsun can run the 1500 with a turbo, but only in club sport or another class which I forget the name of.

If you want to know more just pm me, as I can get the info.

Was the mk1 white with a rear wing??

Try searching for CAMS in an aussie search engine, as CAMS is the govering body for motorsport in Aussie

Here is there web site CAMS

Guys,

Have a search on here under something like CAMS/regulations/rally or something similar. 1200 Rally Car and myself had a bit of a thread going ages ago, we were sussing out our options.

For more detailed regualtions I strongly suggest picking up a copy of the CAMS Rules and Regualtions book. It tells you everything, just remember to interprate the rules as you see them

If you still have questions, yell out.

No, I was just using NZ as an example, as my on screen info might suggest I am in AU ;)

I have also checked the CAMS website and they dont have any of the rally regs online, instead suggesting to refer to the individual clubs who also dont have them on their sites...

in australia you have to run prc or group n or a regs which means that you have to run with the standard block ie 1200 ina 1200 unless you can prove it came from the factory with something else like a model overseas or something but this is rare and for example stanzas never came in australia with a two litre but they did overseas so pretty much everyone runs a two litre.

so, by that token you can say that you could run an a15 because the 1200 came out with an A15 in the later utes?

sorry forgot to add that it is specific to the body shape ie you can only run a 1200 motor in a coupe or sedan because the coupe or sedan only came out with that motor but if you wanted to run a ute then yes you could run an a12 or an a15 because it came out with either
