Welcome datto_all_over, hang around and learn stuff about Dattos.
Looking for under a grand? .....just so you can do a full rebuild? So, you are going to spend $1000 on the car, then spend $15,000 in good parts to get it going properly?
I seriously think that you young fellas have got your plans all wrong. A bargain car is rarely a bargain. Unless the guy is old with no kids, or very rich and doesn't give a damn about the price. Get a good one and start from there.
Buy a bomb of a car, and you'll be forever chasing your tail trying to stop the car from falling apart from rust and general wear and tear. You'll spend at least 5 years replacing one thing after another, and after 5 years you will say..."Oh that Dattodude bloke wasn't BS'ing".
Any Datto for less than $2000 will be a bomb.
The going price for a 1200, used to be $1200, I am willing to debate that this is no longer the case.
Chris
ps. 90% of 1200s are mechanically A1 (They are very reliable), 90% of 1200s are also full of rust.
So for you to find a rustfree mechanically stuffed 1200, you are looking at 1% (10% of 10%) of the 1200s in existance
