if Dattos never existed, Escorts wouldn't be the arch enemy, and I'd be free to give into that annoying little voice inside my head that keeps telling me how cool MkI Escorts look with the forest flares, minilites, and BDAs...drool...

this one is huge, but worth a look (good sideways action) so I'll just link it...
Coastal Classic Rally 1

And for NIS15L and DatA15, I actually have an R30 coupe couldn't pass up the opportunity when it came up... its the HR30 though with L20ET from the factory instead of the cool iron mask front panels and FJ20DET of the DR30. I can't bring myself to drop a 4cyl in there, so it will get an L28, bigger turbo etc etc..

It would have been a car of the same era and the goals would still be the same. Drop in a modern turbo engine.

So the choices would be:
Escort, Cortina, Toyota KE55 Coupe

England. Escorts have a strong rally heritage, and this is the model that started it all. There was a Lotus twin cam version, followed by the legendary RS1600 (BDA engine), and tamer Mexico versions. The forest rally cars used these awesome flares and were the dominant rally car of the period. The RS1600 produced up to 240bhp in works rally spec.
