1200s and Zcars (proper Z cars - ie 2 seaters) have almost identical wheelbases yes, but aren't they lower??? and the weight appears to be distributed more rearward, which would make it handle a lot different. I'm no expert, (I've never driven a Z car) but I just had to put something here. As a general rule, you want a car that has about 50:50 weight distribution (would this be correct?) just don't choose a ute. they get sliding easy, they just don't get a controlled slide happening very quickly. something like an 80:20 weight distribution ![]() (L18_b110, I've got my clutch fitted!)

most R30s had straight sixes from the factory. Which Skyline came out with the FJ motor? I thought it was the DR30? Were the regular plain jane models stragiht sixes, is that what you mean?

Just looking at the "seaton's old car" pic and yeah the comments help clear it up. Tsillay said his DR30RS-X had the FJ, cool. I think I understand.

yeah, from what I have seen:
- the DR30 was FJ20ET powered, - the HR30 had the L20(A)ET 6cyl 2000cc turbo, - and the Aussie MR30 had the L24E six. There were probably more engines options in Japan too...

ill let ya know how the 1200 goes, im entering a drift practice in a few weeks, but from what ive done on the street 1200s are reasnobly good, but woody is right the short wheel base means they spin easy and may be harder to hold a longer drift, but then again i guess they will switch back the other way easier for the connecting corners, i think once you get enough practice in any car it wil be good for it

Which 1200 are you going to use? Sorry Mick, you have too many Dattos and projects to keep track of
![]() Go rip it up, make sure you are wearing some Datsun1200.com stickers somewhere on the Datto, have you got the "shopping list" on your car (please tell me you dont have one of those!)? Cheers, Simon

Dattodude's advice is about the best I have ever heard regarding drifting!!!
"If your life needs more risk..go get a second girlfriend. Then it will be filled with more sex and more risk. What more could an adrenalin junky man desire" I agree 100%!!! I'd rather get more sex than take chances crashing my Datsun. Drifting jacks cars up big time, and if you think you're good enough to not mess up your car, you're wrong...you might get lucky for a little while but you will crash it sooner or later. This is why I don't think Datsuns should ever be drifted....they're too valuable and rare to go crashing up every weekend! Now, if the car is totally trashed and rusted out to begin with I guess it wouldn't be so bad. I was talking to some drifters last weekend about my SR20 Datsun project...first question they asked was if I'm going to drift it, and first words out of my mouth was "HELL NO, I'm not gonna jack up a classic!"

By Enos:510...no contest ..IRS ...not a solid axle like the 1200.. Hy. If the 510 would be a no contest, I would say, the 610 would be a better choice, because in drifting youb need lots of power, and weight to match it, to put weight on the rubber, or else you just spin. A 610 coupe is a better choice for drifting that the 510, this is not about drag, but about power to move the tires/car, plus weight needed for traction.610's are IRS. About the live axle, for slalom or drifting, many times IRS is not the best choice, although today, there is no choice, most cars are IRS, but in conditions as in drifting or slalom, IRS works against cornering/drifting, because camber changes with the inclination of the suspension, messing up traction, decreasing treadth contact as camber becomes more negative. Live axle maintains camber constant. For that matter, the 1200 is a good choice, but given the advantage in extra weight, a coupe B210 might be a better choice. Engine wise, that is open, there are plenty engines that would make these cars fly, for drag or rallye, the 1200, for drifting, the B210, or if IRS wanted, the 610 coupe. Off course I am talking about our era Datsuns, I want to see our 70's Datsuns in the heat of the competition, I do not include later Nissans into my opinion. Later._________________________

A 210 Coupe ( sunny 310 ) with a bit more power would be fun! I like to power slide the back end in my 210. More power and a brake bias controller would make it fun, till the diff breaks that is.

Which 1200 are you going to use? Sorry Mick, you have too many Dattos and projects to keep track of the red one, when turboed, ive got stickers on my side window for the site, and no shopping list (not that i hate em), was hoping to do an autocross this weekend with it, but it wont be turbo and its not running too well so i dont think ill bother. AFracer, i dont understand, why put all these race modifications onto a car and then not "USE" it, i understand not wiping out the species, but i mean if i wasnt gonna race it why would i spend so much time doing it up?, for traffic light derbies? (i think not), any form of motorsport or even road driving is going to destroy your car sooner or later, but most things are repairable, and at least it will be my own fault, not some shmuck who forget to check both ways before pulling out. i think your comments encourages "ricers", just making a car look pretty but not actually using it cause they might break it, i mean in that case they may aswell not upgrade the engine??????? it's like the guy at uni whos put the FMIC, boost controller and other bits and pieces on his r33 gtst but wont even drag it cause he might break the gearbox, i mean you gotta be ####ting me, the same guy laughed at me for having a neon, yet i race mine at every opurtunity, WHO IS THE REAL RICER??? not a personal attack AFracer, just venting my thoughts You can view topic.
