AFracer, i dont understand, why put all these race modifications onto a car and then not "USE" it, i understand not wiping out the species, but i mean if i wasnt gonna race it why would i spend so much time doing it up?, for traffic light derbies? any form of motorsport... I don't understand either! 1) Drifting is not Motorsport! It is only one degree away from traffic light derbies! 2) How can someone who likes the RICE equivalent of racing pay-out on ricers? let the games begin...

i say drifting is motorsport!!!!
are you telling me you cannot see the skill required to be a good drifter?, especially with a single spinner (i say that because i havent tried drifting in a car with lsd) there is no skill in traffic light derbies (they are still fun though), but i am saying drifting is much diffrent because it requires a great level of skill to do well i have been going to some drift practice nights, as a spectator, out at calder raceway and have a good appretiation of the MOTORSPORT now i say you have not tried your hand at proper drifting, and who doesnt get an adrenalin rush from getting the car out sideways Quote: 2) How can someone who likes the RICE equivalent of racing pay-out on ricers? theres two ways i could take that so im not sure what you mean exactly but, i am building two cars remember, one is the full house rally car, no rice (which i simply cant afford to finish building until i am out of uni), then theres the multi-purpose road car, which has the cool little electronic tricks that i like in a road car but also is built to be a fun little thing for a range of motorsports, as i am working my way though trying out all forms of motorsort in it i would love to hear why you are so opinionated on other people, catoragising everyone, you are starting to sound like one of those poncy barstards who thinks there car is so great and the motorsport they are in is the only way, everyone else is a lower form are they? i would love to hear you say this is not the case, because thats the way your post came accross to me

Sorry 1200rc,
Rice is not about having a powerful and pretty (in the owners eyes) car. It is about having a gutless car with useless modifications. I wouldn't call a powerful car rice. It's got some cred in the form of kW. Drift is cool and certainly requires a lot of skill, but drift is not for showcars. You have enough Dattos and parts to fix small accidents (if they happen). But what about those people that don't have as many spares? The cars go to the scrap metal dealers and they disappear. I don't think AFRacer's comments were "Dis'ing" drifting, he's just saying that he likes his Datto enough to not want it to get trashed. You can have a wife and enjoy her at home, or you can take her out to orgies and swinger parties...each to their own. Chris ps. I don't know why I keep relating good treatment of cars to women..maybe it's the governments incessant advertising regarding "Domestic Violence". Drifting is Domestic Violence againt cars. ![]()

Everybody has their own opinions and this is mine. The main reason I don't like drifting is because it is a show off sport, much in the same way that ricing is and it jacks up cars. Whoever's drift looks the best wins, I just don't see much substance to that. If I had a sponsor that pays for the car I would do it cause it looks like fun, but there's no way in hell I'm going to spend my own money to get out there and crash up my Datto that I've spent tons of time and money on just to look good for the crowd!
I don't know about others but when I put a lot of time and money into my cars, I get very attached to them and I have a lot of respect for them when they're finished. I will race it and put it through hell, but all within reason. I flip out when I find a mere scratch on my car, I couldn't handle crashing it up drifting. I agree that one form of motorsport or another wears out a car, but none of them, besides demolition derby, do it quicker than drifting. I have drag and street raced my cars quite a bit and at the end of the day the most damage I've ever done is a tranny or driveshaft. If you go out drifting you ARE going to smack up your body and body/frame work is not as easy or as cheap as mechanical parts especially on 20-30 year old Datsuns! If you want to go drift a classic Datsun I will be all for it and cheer you on, but don't expect me to do the same with my car.

my point is i think it is worse to do a car up in terms of KW, then not "use" it for fear of breaking it
than it is to put a neon in a car that is "used" by "use" i mean, racing, drifting, draging etc etc

relax 1200rallycar - you can probably tell it was designed to get a bit of a rise out of you, so don't take it so hard...
Motorsport, without exception, involves the use of some form of timing equipment. That's how you know who wins. If its not a race against the clock, and instead you're scored on 'style', that ain't motorsport. Unless you count burnouts as motorsport? What about lowriders bouncing around in car parks? Rice is about the style aspect of car modification(well to them anyway). And you can't deny that drifting is all about 'style', so drifting is the 'rice' of the motorsport world. I don't particularly see the point of drifting, or understand the attraction to it. It seems to me a terrible waste of perfectly good racetracks. What's the point of getting on a racetrack if you don't want to see how fast you can go around it? Are they afraid of something? Afraid of going fast through corners? Afraid of getting to the limits? Afraid of seeing their times perhaps? I'm much more impressed by guys who get sideways in order to be the fastest through a corner - ie rally drivers. There is a point to that. Not just showing off to their mates, and that's another thing that links drifting to burnouts, lowriders, and traffic light derbies - the show off factor. I'm also impressed by drivers who walk that fine line of pushing their cars to the limits of adhesion, pushing ten tenths through corners, maybe getting a little out of shape because their trying so hard. That's a test of car control. Deliberately breaking traction and just hanging the tail out does nothing for me. If you want to drive sideways in carparks, have a go at a motorkhana. At least they are a test of skill, where getting it sideways is a means to getting the best time.

grrr, i see where you come from, but dont believe in what you say
why should it only be about timming?, i mean i went and saw circuit racing at phillip island a few weeks ago, and im not knocking it it was great to watch, but the whole time im just waiting to see cars lose it out sideways or stack, drifting feeds this desire perfectly Quote: I'm also impressed by drivers who walk that fine line of pushing their cars to the limits of adhesion, pushing ten tenths through corners, maybe getting a little out of shape because their trying so hard. That's a test of car control. i believe true drifters are doing this, dont just think sideways around one corner, think linking corners and everything else, just go watch em at the track one day for me, and see all the diffrent styles/techniques used, and how much skill some of these blokes (and chicks) really have
