If you had a supercharged L20b, then I'd be jelous! It's a pitty that there aren't more blowers floating around, It would be soooo much fun to stick a 6/71 on an FJ, or an SR.

Is freestyle motorcross a motorsport? Motorbikes have engines and they compete against each other, so I would say yes. So why wouldn't drifting be classified as motorsport? The cars have engines and the drivers are competing against each other. Sure it Gymnastics, but come on, its like the "ute" argument all over again. Lots of races are won or lost in the pits, Could that be miscontrued as not being motorsport? Anything, in my opinion that has engines and competing involved can and is classified as motorsport.
Now driving your car fast and/or drifting on public roads illegally, outside an organised event is NOT motorsport. Not only is it illegal, its also not a real competition, as not all drivers are aware of the rules, nor is not organised so ALL drivers can compete. Damon

Ah, how timely, the new Road & Track arrived (Aug 2004). This is one of the best american magazines, well balanced. Anyways it has an article on drift, here's what it says:Quote:
Drifting is not racing, nor is it a timed event. But before you get too excited ....Quote: But it is a form of motorsport similar to freestyle motocross where the ultimate goal is not just about going the fastest, it is also about exhibiting vehicle control skills and demonstrating the most style during execution. And about NOT being an illegal kid's activity, it is run for example under the D1 Grand Prix, Laguna Seca and other 'real' race tracks. By the way, at the Mazda Laguna Seca drifting, a Dodge Viper (V10 engine) was narrowly beat out by a Nissan 200SX for ultimate winner.

There are few things on earth that sound as good as that V10 engine at full song, but it won't fit my Datsun engine bay. What a bitch.

as long as you're happy to make burnout comps 'motorsport' too
even show'n'shines have cars with motors competing against each other. doesn't make it motorsport. some of those night runs/ touring assemblies/ nav runs or whatever else you want to call them have a skill test to decide a winner in event of a tie. They set up a pole standing up in a parking lot, and the competitors drive up to it and stop as close as possible without hitting it. It's a test of skill, a driving competition between motor vehicles, but it sure as hell ain't motorsport. As for freestyle motorcross, that's just gymnastics too; the motorbike is merely the apparatus and is purely incidental to what they're actually doing. Guys do exactly the same things on pushbikes. Maybe that's motorsport as well?
