I don't really care what opinions people have as long as I get to have a beer watching all this OK....By the way, drifting is a skill, its a totally different game of motorsport it how good you look sideways and no respect to your motor vehicle sad sad sad. Racing is a skill too with respect being paramount for the motorvehicle and is I believe Professional.
Well thats my opinion theres your opinion and I respect you.

Hmmm. Good thread. Rallying. Its kind of like drifting in the bush but not going around a track. You can "show off" at spectator points too. I like to watch drift, but yeah the cars do cop a hiding, not unlike most cars in motorsport (where the driver is having a good go). Holding a single spinner sideways and back again (side to side) is really easy, I am loving the thrills of driving my new ute with LSD. I got too used to the old ute that I wasnt scard anymore, this new thing gets me excited, cant wait to master it!

Anyway, whats the argument? Its all good, people are having fun in a controlled (to some extent) environment. Im going to get another beer

I don't particularly see the point of drifting, or understand the attraction to it. It seems to me a terrible waste of perfectly good racetracks. What's the point of getting on a racetrack if you don't want to see how fast you can go around it? Are they afraid of something? Afraid of going fast through corners? Afraid of getting to the limits? Afraid of seeing their times perhaps?

Mate, there are some people out there that like this(myself included), but unlike some they like to just drift, cos thats there thing. You know its fun to do!!! and thats what life is about each person having there fun there way!! Hey you dont have to like it, but if you cant saying anything nice, please dont put them down for doing it.

I beleive that racing is about winning and yes timing is also a big part of some forms of motorsport, ie rallying. Like others have said drifting is also about the timing of a drift so you can "synchronise" your next drift in to a corner and that like the racing takes skill to do it well.

I believe that live is to be enjoyed anyway you, them or I want to live it, so let them enjoy themselves, cos I dont hear them putting you down for the way you live your life.

man oh man... i see were you three are coming from...

... ... ... ... BELIVE IT OR NOT, i think drifting is absalutly redickulise, but HELLA FUN, and driving my 510 and drifting in it is FUN, it makes my day,,,and that is what's important to ME , sooooo,, i DO "USE" my car EVERY FRIKIN day... and if you want to talk about making upgrades to put them to USE,, I ALSO am buildin a full race 1200, that i will get plenty of "USE" from but more importantly; "FUN" .....
but i will tell you one thing drifting is "motorsports"... ...

and yes me posting the photo of my 510, was to prove a point, and the point has nothing to do with drifting at all... ... ...
.. .. the point is I GO OUT AND ACTUALLY DO WHAT EVER IT IS THAT IS BEING "TALKED ABOUT" ... ... ... i am sorry if you think it makes your city hard up on you for your cars and drifting, but i really DO NOT BELIVE THAT something that i do on a street here in sacramento california, has any affect on YOU... ... ...

I don't see what the big deal is Americans have been drifting for years
I hear a banjo playing when I look at this picture. Speaking of banjo... what about the Dukes of Hazzard? Are Bo and Luke Duke the original drifters?

grrr, i see where you come from, but dont believe in what you say

why should it only be about timming?, i mean i went and saw circuit racing at phillip island a few weeks ago, and im not knocking it it was great to watch, but the whole time im just waiting to see cars lose it out sideways or stack, drifting feeds this desire perfectly

I'm also impressed by drivers who walk that fine line of pushing their cars to the limits of adhesion, pushing ten tenths through corners, maybe getting a little out of shape because their trying so hard. That's a test of car control.

i believe true drifters are doing this, dont just think sideways around one corner, think linking corners and everything else, just go watch em at the track one day for me, and see all the diffrent styles/techniques used, and how much skill some of these blokes (and chicks) really have

relax 1200rallycar - you can probably tell it was designed to get a bit of a rise out of you, so don't take it so hard...

Motorsport, without exception, involves the use of some form of timing equipment. That's how you know who wins. If its not a race against the clock, and instead you're scored on 'style', that ain't motorsport. Unless you count burnouts as motorsport? What about lowriders bouncing around in car parks?

Rice is about the style aspect of car modification(well to them anyway). And you can't deny that drifting is all about 'style', so drifting is the 'rice' of the motorsport world.

I'm much more impressed by guys who get sideways in order to be the fastest through a corner - ie rally drivers. There is a point to that. Not just showing off to their mates, and that's another thing that links drifting to burnouts, lowriders, and traffic light derbies - the show off factor. I'm also impressed by drivers who walk that fine line of pushing their cars to the limits of adhesion, pushing ten tenths through corners, maybe getting a little out of shape because their trying so hard. That's a test of car control. Deliberately breaking traction and just hanging the tail out does nothing for me. If you want to drive sideways in carparks, have a go at a motorkhana. At least they are a test of skill, where getting it sideways is a means to getting the best time.
