If you are in one of these states, why not check out the yard and report back to us?

I found a cool web site that shows apparently real-time inventory. If you search for a common item, say flywheel, it tells you which yard has them. So maybe they also have a car as well.

For example:

Colorado: PRP - Fair Auto and Truck Parts - CO(Englewood) 1-800-748-2505
Alberta: Marshall Auto Wreckers, Ltd. Can-AB(Lethbridge) 1-403-328-3316
Nebraska: Mid City Auto Supply USA-NE(Hastings) 1-402-462-5121
Idaho: Barger-Mattson Auto, Inc. USA-ID(Twin-Falls) 1-800-632-0836
Connecticut: Bill's Auto Parts Tolland USA-CT(Tolland) 1-800-552-4557
Idaho: Forest Auto Parts USA-ID(Lewiston) 1-800-967-5228
Idaho: Dillon Auto Parts - Boise USA-ID(Boise) 1-800-888-8733
Utah: Kurts Auto Wrecking USA-UT(American-Fork) 1-800-662-6552

Car-part.com Search for Nissan 1200, common parts.

I used that site to get a new tail lamp for my datsun. The problem is that the yards tend to not know where the items are and they may not have the item anymore. It took a few trys to get parts, sometimes the people in the yard aren't too helpful.

But, it's way easier to make calls than hunt for parts.

I have been searching for a transmission for my (USA) 210 engine and searched Car-Part.com and it told me a number (22) of places had one, when I called twelve of them I was told that the transmission had been sold years ago. Car-Parts gets a listing but never updates it, so it stays there for years.

Any one know where I can get a F4W56A transmission on the east coast of USA?

Try the drag strip ... one of the 1200 guys should have the 4-speed sitting in their garage ... The 1200, B210 and 210 (B310) all used this 4-speed. I just saw one yesterday in a B310 in the wrecking yard.

In my area wrecking yards strip from cars what they want and then send the car to the compactor. They don't keep anything for too long. That is why I tried Car-Parts, but I'm not having any luck in my area. I may have to travel 3 or so hours to find a yard that may have one.

Move to Australia. We got plenty still.
Although they are beginning to decline.

I'm having good success with the hunting. At first they say "no way, no old Datsun parts", but when I examine the yard I find some parts. About half the places I've visited this week have B210 or B310 parts.

I've found three 5-speeds for sale. Priced at $200-$225, less if you-pull or negotiate.

At one place two days ago I made an offer on some parts, but they wouldn't come down in price. Today I went back, and they were just about to put the car in the crusher (they had actually crushed the top of the car down). I got the parts for less money today. I can't believe they would just as soon scrap a part as come down on price. It often depends on who you talk to at the establishment -- the guy today thought it was funny that anybody wanted Datsun parts, so he gave me a break.

I also found two cars at a 'used car' place in the forest, one with A15 and 5-Speed, the other a B210 5-speed (probably dogleg). But the owner is out of town 'for the summer'.

Dattodude,

I've considered studying for a semester in Australia just to get some parts for my beloved Datsun. I knew a girl who studdied there for a semester and she loved it!
