Leaving Harry's Dinner the other night I was in the centre on a 3 lane road when a datsun 1600 with an sr20 turbo and 351 gt falcon pull up eithier side of me at the lights. Both left with smoke everywhere. When the datto came on boost in second it absolutaly smoked the gt which i believe was indeed not stock. Down at the next set of lights the datto really got up it in second and it was quite unbeliveable. It fishied up the road violently like a toy car leaving twin lines and smoke everywhere whilst accelerating hard to well on to 120km/h (I know this because i tried to keep up) and still absolutaly blew away the gt.

My a14 kept within a car length in first gear then pow

Maybe now you understand the "turbo bug".

My brother SR20DET (165rwkW) powered 1600 was the same. V8 anything, never even came close. The other car would need to pull sub 13 second quarters to even have a chance.

I loved the speed of the turbo datto but I have to admit I would rather a 13sec V8 over a 13sec turbo 4. I just love V8s. (Not fords though)

You've not driven a good turbo 4 then.

If you like driving around big cars...then go for it. Sounds like you don't understand the Datto scene.

I can't register a V8 in a Datto..so I don't like V8s I can't justify the bad fuel economy of a V8 (in a big car). Turbos are the best of both worlds.

I don't own a caravan or boat..so I don't need a big car.

I understand your love of the turbo push and I love my datto very much but V8s sound great, make heaps of torque and horsepower arcross a much broader rev range than a turbo 4.

I also prefer supercharger over turbo. I love the thought of been able to spin the wheels from idle to redline. And supercharger don't kill the sound of a nice engine eithier.

Hey but its what people like. You like turbo 4s and i like v8s.

Freak
You are my kinda man.
I have owned & loved my little Datsun since i bought the first one in 1980. I've still got it, but i love my V8 Dodge too. These are two totally diferent categories of vehicle, & my little Datsun is the most fun car i have ever owned, so i will not be parting with it anytime soon, but the larger car, with it's V8 is the most satisfying.
The smooth flow of torque, the ability to pull out & pass a semi trailer up a steep hill in top gear, from 1,500 rpm, is very stimulating. With a positive displacement blower, [6-71] & reasonably high gearing, the feeling of strength has to be experienced to be appreciated.

Both of these types of car have their place, & i want to be in the drivers seat of either one as the mood strikes me.

One day taxman,... one day.
