Hey guys.

My carbis always acting up, cause of dirty fuel.
I just put in a new petrol filter but noticed the petrol in the carbi reservoir being very very dirty.

Any suggestions as to how to go about cleaning the fuel tank{the easy way}, cause this is surely the problem.

Remember my cars approx 30 yrs old.

take the fuel tank out drain all the fuel first of course. take the top bit off and hose it out. clean the hell out of it with some soap and water and sit it to dry over a couple of days the put it back and bobs your auntie. just make sure it's dry and clean.

I know what you mean.
I recently drained my tank to remove it, and besides not beng able to remove the tank due to stuck nuts, i had to unblock the drain bung with a screwdriver as the gunk on the bottom as soo hard, i had to use a hammer to break it up!!!!

Flushing out a bit of grit and fines is as easy as you said, some soap and a hose.

Any ideas on the caked stuff in my tank. perhaps let sleeping dogs lie as I havaent really had aproblem with dirty fuel.

I dropped a length of chain in the tank and swirlled it around.
Also, there might be some muck in the fuel pump and fuel lines.

Hi Reeves

Unfortunately I think the only way to solving your problem will be to remove the tank.
I may be wrong but I think you remove the back seats's back rest and the cover in the boot that covers the tank.
Bolt it loose and take it out.
The chain idea I think is also a good idea to get all the crap loose inside and make sure to flush it properly not to leave any of that stuff behind that will find its way to your engine.

Good luck

Many radiator repair shops will also offer a professional clean out service that may invilve a chemical bath, or slosh around.

The chain is good, & so is a hand full of larger size nuts. Give this a good shaking to dislodge all the crud, than wash it out. Fit a new filter, & cary a couple of spares in the glove box.
