Freedom has it's price. Personally I don't need the government to protect me from myself and would prefer they didn't. If that price is there is 1 out of 10,000 cars on the road that aren't very safe, so be it.

FWIW, here where I live about 99% of the cars on the road are less than 5-6 years old. Maybe in some areas it's a bigger risk...

Also, on our cars that are less than 25 years old, the inspection process is very stringent. Not as hard as yours, but hard nonetheless. And the number of antique car (21 and older) is microscopic. Heck, I think they are all at our shop...

Yep they do look cool but would be illegal in NZ as the only vehicles allowed to show a blue light to the front of a vehicle is a police car. Technically in NZ the only colour lights allowed in front are white and orange.

FYI, the bulbs can easily be changed out for any color you like, even white or orange.

Oh, they love confiscating cars here as while ever it is in their posession, YOU have to pay for the storage.

But, its "sustained loss of traction" that gets your car taken not defects.

many states here have anual inspection programs that are required before a vehicle can be reregestered, they don't defect it here, they condem it. that means that the state confiscates for safety reasons, almost impossable to get it back if it happens.
It would seem that diferent states vary from the sublime to the rediculous. In some states it would appear that just about anything goes, while in others, if they don't like it, they try to steal your property.

At least here, the worst they can do is give you a list of fix-ups as long as the average toilet roll, & tell you to come back with an engineering report, then tell you to put it on a trailer [or truck] & "get that heap of sh1t outa here." They don't confiscate [steal] it as they are stuck with it then.

Thanks for the info, i did not know of the other [draconian] end of the stick.

Yep they do look cool but would be illegal in NZ as the only vehicles allowed to show a blue light to the front of a vehicle is a police car. Technically in NZ the only colour lights allowed in front are white and orange. There is trend around here to fit small blue lights on the dash pad or rear vision mirrors and thats enough to get you a ticket !!

I don't know about any of the other legalities you guys are talking about....but I pretty sure that the colour would make these illegal.

But who cares, I want some!!!!

be very careful about passing your judgement, many states here have anual inspection programs that are required before a vehicle can be reregestered, they don't defect it here, they condem it. that means that the state confiscates for safety reasons, almost impossable to get it back if it happens.

Those lights could, depending on what you're driving, get you pulled over around here. Not that anyone really cares about the lights. They are a good excuse to pull you over and check your records, plates.

Some of the inspection BS you guys have to go through just kills me...

Some new cars now use plain, clear headlight lenses & this is why i speculated about the H4 bulb being the device that controlls the way the beam moves when dipped.

I know that the inspections are a source of amusement in the US, but i have seen some of the dangerous modifications made by unknowing, & untallented car modifiers over here & i have seen pictures of the same thing in the US. I'm damn glad that we have these inspections as i have some small measure of confidence that most of the cars on our roads actually perform as they should.

These standards exist for the safety & well being of all of us & for that reason i would rather ride in an Australian compliant modified car than a non compliant one,... from anywhere. I know that some of the modified cars that i have seen pictures of street legal cars from the US that would have inspectors here in fits of laughter. "You want to register THAT?"
