The 120Y STRUT is the same, but not the strut ASSEMBLY. These things will fit, as you have seen, but with diferent results.
If you strip everything from the strut, that is. the spring & the whole shock absorber, then the tube & stub axle part is the same. I do not have the 120Y parts book, so i can not confirm if any, or all, of the shock absorber parts are interchangeable

Rebuild it with your 1200 parts & you have a complete 1200 suspension assembly.
This does NOT apply to the Australian built 120Y's from July '76 as these used a completely diferent disc brake setup.

Rb20, Did you use the 1200 struts tops and springs or did you install the 120y ones?

Perhaps the springs out of the 120Y are longer and/or harder.zDid you compare them to the 1200 springs before installing them?

If you have the original 1200 springs try switching back to them, they might bring your car back down to earth.

also,is it using the 120y strut top.if so,go back to the 1200 top, which'll drop it a bit.if there is nothing poking up through the hole in the strut tower, then it's a 120y top.
