I have the same setup as you with a 32/36 Weber and a Ramflo filter. The induction noise of this setup is amazing and easily overbears the exhaust and the old carby. That is what the rumbling noise will be. You should also be able to clearly hear it sucking when you accelerate.

I dont think its normal cos this is the 2nd time I installed a weber and its not normal
its like air turbulence kinda noise
not the suction noise
yeah you can hear the suction noise when you rev it.
I can hear the noise louder in the egnine bay area probably coming from the cabry?
Yesterday I was driving and stop at the traffic light and when i tried moving the carby backfired not really loud though.

could be a acumleak in there some where or its running lean, did you rebuild the carby or just whack it on datsun style.
Also did you retune the car and the carby.
What other mods are there, if its just the carby, yu could be running way to rich as well.
need more info from this side of things now.

tried setting the carb leaner but then it then runs rough and dies on road on brake or taking off so I adjusted it to run rich but the "rumbling" noise is louder and the car blows black smoke cos its running rich.
so I adjust the mixture again and now runs great no smoke only problem is that noise on decelleration on gear.

I rebuilt the carb myself checked everything and change all the worn out stuff.

If the air/fuel mixture is overly rich, it can cause a bru-bre-brap-bru sound when you let off the throttle. To resolve that, simply adjusting the idle mixture screw is not enough. You need to tune the jet and more importantly the air bleeds to get it just right.

So why not just put the Hitachi back on? It didn't rumble ...
