you obvoisly haven't driven a CA 1200! Quote: A CA conversion has been done quite a few times and is not interesting anymore

DUDE, Ill borrow money and bet that it is flywheel bolts.
I have done the same thing in my supercharged datto. Missed a shift due to worn gear stick bushes, and reved it through the roof. They were even loctited in too. Don't run it with the flywheel loose, or it will fret the end of the crank, and the fleywheel wont seat nicely. I had the inside of the F/wheel skimmed in a lathe to make sure the mating face was true. Unless the rotating assembly is balanced, this will happen at engine speeds over 8000 ish. I have also heard of the crappy cast iron spoked crankshaft pulleys disintergrating through high rpm inbalances. (cast iron doesn't flex too good) Don't write off your motor yet.

I agree with many of these fellas. You "Da Man" when it comes to twin turbo A-series.
Get it apart and have a look at it. Unlike 1200GXman, I still get a woody everytime I think of a winding road and a 1200 with a worked CA18DET. Steering with the back wheels....I like to do that... Cheers.

I have never driven a CA powered 1200 but can just imagine what a thrill it must be. Personally I think that there is nothing compared to a lightweight 1200 with that much power. Except a Rotary Turbo. What I ment is that it is new engineering. Lots of people has done a CA transplant. But who has done a A15 twin turbo setup? I only know of one. But know of quite alot with CA transplants on this website. Its something new and interesting.

get her back on the road mate!
although a CA would be a lot more reliable i too like the idea of being different and a tt a15 definately is... besides... ive been in it and it packs a fair punch! id be happy with the power it puts out if you could obtain a certain degree of reliablity from it... thats the challenge i suppose

I'l go with L18_B110 & A14force. Pull the trans & clutch, then check the flywheel bolts. If the bolts are at all loose, then remove the flywheel & pitch the bolts in the bin as they are now of dubious integrity.
Have a real good look at the bolt holes & decide if the flywheel is useable & replace if necessary. Any ovality in these holes & the flywheel is your new garage door prop. Have a real good look at the crankshaft bolt holes as well. Use a good light & a magnifying glass if need be. If the flywheel is still good & tight, then the engine needs to come out, but i would bet real money that you have a loose flywheel. It costs nothing to check & it may save you some grief. This is why "the boss" from my local service station has had the harmonic balancers built for his racer. This problem is a non-event now.

1200rc, keep it a15tt, even back it off to a12 ttfor a bit, build up the a15tt with injectionand a better intercooler..... the price of this compared to the ca and engenieering, you could buy another datto and start a ca transplant and do it properly over the next couple of years.
i was supprised at the 15.68 it pulled at heathcotte, imagine what it would have been pulling now. Th a15tt may not have the ca experience beaten but there is something called a balance of power.... some thing these ca guys might think of evry time they need new tyres

Yeh dont get rid of the A15tt, go back to the A12tt and rebuild the A15 so u can run some more boost and run a bit more reliably.
the drop the A15 back in with injection with everything beefed up to run 20psi safely then if u got some change, buy a few spare gearboxes

I agree, if you've already done all the work and got all the parts, just rebuild your A15 (if you have to). Make it stronger all around and more reliable and get some injection on that monster! Going with a totally different setup like CA/SR/etc is going to cost so much more money and time than you already have invested. I've always been keen to hear some good times and runs from your TT 1200, keep up the good work and get it back on the road soon!
For the other arguement, I like the A series, but I still love the idea of a newer or bigger engine like the CA or SR. The only one I don't care for so much is the rotary in a Datsun, but as long as it's a Datsun I'll still love it! You can view topic.
