evilsim Posted on: 2004/11/10 5:02
single DCOE dilemma

as per my dilemma, i need to goto twin webers. if anyone has a pair of twin 40 or 45's please contact me via private message or email sim@sol1.net

these will be going onto an semi-worked A15 to become the screamer that i want it to be.

$400 is still cheap! Nothing wrong with 40mm Dellortos carbs for a 1500cc engine either - especially at that price.

You wont need 45s on a "semi-worked" a15. you can still use 40s and go larger chokes, and big jets, air correcters etc etc.

I have a mild/torque cam in my worked a14 and my 40s are plenty! they have 32mm chokes and pretty small jets and corrects and is runnning slighty rich with that.

I wouldnt put 45s on the A15 unless it was well worked and had quite a large cam. You still have plenty to play with on the 40s (chokes, jets, E tubes etc etc)

cheers

yeah rejetted 40's do great on my worked A15 too...you just wont be at high revs all the time on the street to justify anything close to 45's. anyway back to the real issue, what is that contacts name in Sydney selling these webers and dellortos??

thanks for the advice fellas. i am going to check them out tomorrow as I told the guy I would so ill see what happens then. I dont know much about DCOE/DHLA's so I was unsure about the non weber-brand side draughts first off. i trust u guys though so i may reconsider. if i dont buy them i will definitely tell them to expect some calls. the phone number is at work ill have to post it tomorrow. cheers

1 more thing , are parts for dellortos available ? would there be any reason for me to NOT buy these ?

The place I found these dell's at is called 'arnaldo' the phone number is 9487 1677. they still have the twin 40's there, but note they DID come off a 2LTR alfa - so read the rest of this post (other comments) and see what u think. they are in pretty good nic, i got a photo on my phone if any1 wants it. or else go buy em. they offered me $250 cash cuz i spoke nicely to them so try and do the same and you should be able to get the same price for em. they only have 1 pair of 40 dell's in at the moment.

I have been told that dell parts are still availabe but hard to find, not as common as weber parts. Errol again is a good chance too get Dell parts through or ask the people your buying it through wether they know where to get parts.

Reason not to buy may be that its off a Alfa 2lt and the jets, chokes and correctors may be way off what you want and that these parts are expensive and could cost another $100-300 to get the right set up for your planned motor. I was lucky enough to by my webers off a worked A15 motor.

Also try and find as much info on what condition and history on prior rebuilds etc the carbs might have recevied. Because rebuilds on these carbs arent cheap. Another probelm with sidedraughts (that I have been told) is if they have done lots of Km's and have not been looked after, is that they can get grit and muck build up internally and require them to be drilled to fix the problem which is alot more $$$.

these are just things to think about before buying lemons. but trust me if you get a good deal and get these babies going you wont regret it!!!

cheers
