#1 CA20...Anyone?
datrat_dave Posted on: 2004/11/14 13:14
Tell me if im blind or stupid but has anyone out there fitted succesfully a CA20 into there Datto's?
I vaguely remember one in a stanza i saw on the web but that twas a lloooonnng time ago....Of course mounts, tunnel, rear end is all a tribulation but is this a succesful converision in obtaining power and better fuel economy??
The reason for this is a mate is selling his pintara for 1500, but he said he'd give me the engine for around 650, think its done 150800 k's on it...

Cheers
Dave

Sure, many people have fitted CA engines into their 1200s. The CA20 is just another variation, admittedly not as good as the CA18 but should fit more or less the same way.

Better fuel economy? Not likely. The A12 is going to give you the best fuel economy.

This topic -- specifically the CA20 -- has been discussed several times. Check the Search box, enter CA20.

Ca20's are a pretty crappy engine in stock form. I think your mate is asking WAY too much for the engine I'd say it's worth 300 tops, I bought my CA18DET package for double what he wants and my engine had half as many km's on it.
Stick with the A series and hot it up a bit :)

Is the CA18 -N/A and Turbo got better internals and more compared to the 'big' brother?? Therefore making it a better option for most converisons???

I know the CA18 has been done ALOT in dattos i was just inquiring about the CA20 because i havent seen many of these conversions, but from common sense, not hearing about it usually means this for a reason....They arent that good!!!

Yeah i aint gona buy it was just seeing what you guys reckon of this engine...A series power will do me for a lifetime!!

Cheers Guys
Dave

*woohoo made new status!! Im learning!!

CA20 might as well have conrods made out of welding slag - they're so fragile.

the crossflow head is a good thing, as is the twin plug system, but the manifolding flows about the same as a wet sponge.

so yeah, if you want a cheap CA, get a CA18DE.

I had a series 3 bluebird but i give it away to some mates, hes series 3 blue bird sedan did some awsome burnouts for a stocker.
Allthough a LOT of people say steer clear of the CA20, and i think i must agree, if u want to get a bigger motor and dont want a CA18det, why not a Z18et or a L20b? or L18?

A L20b will be going in my '71 1600 when i talk the bloke into giving it away hehe!!!
Here if you say Datsun is thought as a piece of paddock memorabilia and worth nothing more so in retrospect i would LOVE a 1200 sedan but no one has any old Dattos anymore...

But as for my good ol B310 Wagon when i get around to recoing the A15, n fitting my 32/36, extractors, and 5 speed it will be fine for the moment....

But twill keep the advice in memory bank!!
CA20 = bad times!
CA18 = happy days!

Cheers
Dave
