Is there any info available about the relative power losses for an auto tranny compared to a manual, assuming all other facts are identical? [i searched tech and faq first)

I'm planning a CA18DET into 1200 sedan conversion and wondered how much (if any) of my power gains would be lost if i chose an auto instead of 5 speed?

The Silvia boys would be better to answer..The Auto box looks (and probably is) much heavier! As a result, I've never considered it.

Performance Silvias with an Auto simply don't exist, this cannot be a sign that they are a good option.

There is a loss factor, but the lack of gears and pensioner factor smoothness of the auto that makes it less attractive.

i surf through the nissan silvia forums quite regualaryly(cant spell that word at all), and they dont use the auto box to often because once u start to feed more power through it, it will give up quite easily under the load, and they are also a lot more expensive to build one to sustain a certain power output compared to the manuals.
