Thanks for the numbers Neil. This is the kind of stuff i love.
The magic number for Australian KB10's [Datsun 1000 coupes] is KB10-080 001 From this number upwards, they are regarded as 1970 models, first released in July of 1969. It would seem that production was discontinued in December of 1969.
Anything below this number is regarded as a 1969 model. The '69 model year for Datsun 1000's generally started from September of 1968, however, i believe that Sidedraught has a '68 model sales brochure for the JDM Sunny range that aslo includes images of a coupe. If i can get a look at this document, or find something that he wants to trade for it, i will get a better idea of when the KB10 was first released, but i suspect that the Sunny Coupe was released right at the end of the '68 model run & may still have been regarded as a '69 model car. [Hint hint Sidedraught,...trade, hmmmm]
The two serial numbers are only 166 units apart, so it's even possible that they were shipped on the same boat. Well,.... you never know.
For the record, the chassis number for my coupe is KB10 - 090 686 which clearly makes it a '70 model, & probably near to the end of production.
Any other KB10 owners are invited to let me know their chassis numbers, either via this thread, or by e-mail as i would like to build a databas of chassis numbers to help in future research. Thanking you in advance. Chris
That1200 You could try ringing Nissan in Australia & asking them. That's how i came to find that my series 2 Bluebird wagon was built in late Feb of '85, almost three weeks after the official launch of the series 3 Bluebird model. The plate was even stamped 02/85 which confused my local parts bloke.
