yeah i had thought about that but dont the CA16s have the intake plenum above the rocker cover apose to next to as in the CA18 this makes for the need for a hole in the bonnet for the plennum (although it would be cool) i dont want such a thing.
thanks for the insite and believe me i have slept on it.
cheers

Fight? ... Nah, just a little spirited discussion between a couple of site-mates over our favorite Datsuns. Fighting includes swear words & name calling, & i do not to stoop to that.

Now,... if you want to do a CA instalation in a 1000, then have a think about the CA16DE. On the upside is the lower cost of these things & they are every bit as good as their bigger brethren, but should be legal in a 1000.

You can very likely buy a whole EXA, & drive it home for less than the cost of the "18" This way you get all the bits you need like computer, harness, fuel tank pump & a zillion other small bits & pieces to enable a good job to be a great one.
The end result will still be a really good performing car.

Sleep on it.

So now the ad could read
FOR SALE, Datsun 1000 Ute with original, factory installed CORVETTE "type" front suspension.

To be serious, the ONLY problem with the 1000's front end design was the price. MacPherson Struts do the job that is required of them, & they do it well at a significantly lower cost to manufacture. The total lack of any ability to perform a full wheel alignment was of no concern to the various manufacturers who accurately built bodyshells in precision jigs. New cars did not need wheel alignment.

So there you have it, a snappy little ute, with a current technology front end,... it's moderately rare, it's cute, it's practical, & has loads of development potential.
It's just looking for a new owner who has the vision to recognise the development & investment potential of what could be the next cult car. Well, it could be.

Out of curiosity, when you assert that the B10 does not have the same handling as MacPhersun strut equiped cars [i assume you mean that the handling is less] are you speaking from experience, or are you just making it up?
I drove my sedan for many many years, & a lot of bloody miles without ever encountering a problem as a result of suspension design. Ride quality was quite acceptable too.

Yeah notice how you said vans, trucks. Things that carry weight. It is a robust setup compared to the struts system. Strut towers wont cave in under weight. Ill eat my words on the corvette though. However I think it is a little more refined than the datto 1000.

Well put. I agree with that. Some like 1000s, other 1200s and 1600s as well as z cars and the rest. We still have personal favourites though. You like 1000s and I like 1200s and thats that.

Low1000 if you resize your pics down say 99% I am sure you will be able to upload them to the site. The ones you emailed me took like 10 minutes to receive.

Freak its all good mate. Dig what you dig.
Lots of new cars still have double A arm suspension, plenty of utes, vans etc. even Corvettes. Heres something for you to do, type Corvettte, Transverse Leaf Suspension and 2005 into a search engine and have a little read.
Prehistoric? Tried and tested. Macpherson? Cheap to produce.

The suspension in the front of the 1000 is dated compared to the 1200. Theres not many new cars today that dont use macpherson strus or pogosticks. Im not saying either that there is anything wrong with wishbone suspension (id happily own one with it especially some old muscle) but the leaf spring setup. It doesn't provide the same handling as pogostick does. Plus in my opinion the 1200 is a far better looking machine.

In case you havent noticed what the name of the site is. datsun"1200".com not datsun1000.com. There may be some others on here but the majority own either b110 or b120.

Dodgeman you are welcome though to the datsun 1200 site. Us 1200 lovers are friendly folk. jokes

Why, it's self evident. Great style, a real suspension, instead of a pogo stick, rarity,.. heaps of stuff, but like i said,, this was,"in my view, opinions may vary", as yours obviously does, or did you miss that part of my post.

The site is "named" Datsun 1200, but is devoted, in practice, to the basic model grouping B10 /110 /210 /310 with a nominal focus on the 1200's ['70 to '73] as well as the lookalike '74 to ?? utes

I wonder how you came up with the "prehictoric" part when it comes to wonderfull, fully adjustable, easily lowered [for free] front suspension design. Is it because the design dates back to the 30's?[or earlier] Hell, the rubber tyred road wheel design dates back to the 1860's but you happily use this pre-historic component. The only problem with wishbone suspension is the cost of manufacture, particularly in a car who's main selling point was its low price. [& great style] [opinions may still vary]

Disc brakes for 1000's are only an e-mail or a phone call away. I had mine delivered, all nice & brand new, within a short time after my first enquirey, so i don't know about this "hard to get" part. It wasn't hard for me.
The best part is that it is a straight-up, bolt-on deal. No need to change pogo sticks or ferret through wreckers looking for Commodore calipers, Mitsubishi rotors & other model Datsun struts that need spring seats to be changed.
Fitting ventilated rotor disc brakes to my beloved B10's is a much simpler job than doing the same thing to a 1200. Perhaps you should step up to a Datsun 1000 & enjoy the diference.
This thread has a nice ute for sale, perhaps you could give it some thought.

Dodgeman that is a bold statement to make on a site that is devoted to 1200s

Please enlighten us on how 1000s are better than 1200s. Is it the prehistoric front suspention or lack of disc brakes(or hard to get) Please tell us why its better?
