in an attempt to remove the sender uint i broke it in half.
is there an easier way to get it out or does the head have to come off and be sent in.

Yeah I had this problem on my old 1200, basically what we ended out doing was to drill the sender out and putting a new one in, as far as I could see there was no alternative to getting it out...

Were you able to remove the threaded part of the sender with the hex head? If so you can use an awl to collapse the copper sender end in on itself and remove it with a pair of needle nose vice grips.

Yes, when refitting the new sender, use a good "non-seize" compound. I like to use "Kopper-Kote" by Jetlube, this is almost essential on exhaust bolts that get really hot.

to get the broken bottom half out,use a tap of the appropriate size, turn it in for a couple of turns,by which time the bottom half should have stopped sticking to the head, then pull it
out.i've had to do this a couple of times, when the 'collapse the sender down & extract with pliers' trick didn't work.i just got a cheap set of
taps & dies from stupid cheap or ripco,& found
the size to fit.much safer for me than drilling.
