The main problem that you will encounter is that a datsun 1200 ute has no chassis structure. The back of the ute is part of the body which gives it its strength. I assume you would have to make up a half chassis or something similar.

i reckon itd look sick but with not just a flat tray with all the underneath showing id like to see a datto ute cut at tray level, inside tray level, and then a timber top flush with the sides and with thin timber sides. id also put a big inlayed datsun logo. im gathering people know what an inlay is ???

I was kinda thinking about doing that to this ute:

turn it into a full drag car with a v8 or something stupid like that... the floor is rusted out, as is everything else. but hey, if you wanted to turn it into a drag car you'd probably cut all that out anyway...
oh, and ov course the trayback ute

I know some one that cut a EL ford wagon in to a twincab tray he coppied the 1/2 chassis desinge of the AU ute & passed engineers no dramas. it wouldnt have to be as heavy duty as that but it will steer you down the right path. Nothings impossible & it would look cool
