Either way, a good or warn engine doesnt spit water out into the engine. Only a crack or bad gasket can do it.
Catch cans catch blowby - blowby is oil, fuel, air mix no water

Worn engines don't make water [coolant] in the oil, they just get tired, blow smoke & drink oil.
Water [coolant] is geting past something that it shouldnt & the most common point is at the back of the cylinder head.
If this is a result of reduced tension on the head bolts, & the problem is more seepage that leakage, then retensioning the head just might save it.

I would just give the head bolts a quick tighten and then chuck a bottle of kemiweld in the radiator.
If your gonna spend money on a different engine if this one needs a head gasket, I personally would just try the $10 option first.

Take note, H2O is a byproduct of gasoline combustion. Therefore, on a tired motor some of the blowby will contain H2O. Ive seen a manifestion of this as milky sludge on the underside or the oil filler cap, even when the oil down below is fine. The catch can on my blown motor used to fill up with water . Turned out to be a cracked head. Take note of how much watery ####e is in there. Big droplets of unemulsified water laying on top of the head, under the rocker gear, in my experience, means a crack. (seen it twice)

This stuff is getting old. Things like hoses, and radiators are getting prone to failure, leading to big cook ups. Now days, if I start making water, I get the head hardness tested, pressure tested, and skimmed. In the past 18 months, I've had one head that had gone soft, and two that turned out to be cracked. You never know how hot a moron previous owner has had your engine.

How much blowby does your motor have? Is your PCV system all working properly?
I've had an absolute gutsfull of motors that make water.

You mention that the engine is not using coolant, the level stays full. Is your engine getting hot enough? Is your temp guage working & accurately? Is the thermostat removed? If the engine isn't allowed to warm up fully, does mainly short trips, & is driven in a very humid climate. Some condensation under the oil cap can be normal. Keeping your engine cool is a high priority, but too cool can also have side effects. I'd try a new thermostat first. (cheaper than pulling the engine appart). Might not be the cause, just something to consider.

At least you can still drive it for now & you have the time to organise a repair. My son bought a Skyline a little while back with the RB30 engine. The cam belt broke two days later in the middle of town.

The seller was proudly boasting that he hadn't spent a cent on it in many years & it really showed. That sort of neglect should be a crime. Anyway, with a major service, a few repairs, & three new belts it runs just fine & it has only about 425,000 k on the original engine. The only way to kill it now is with an axe.
It will very soon be replaced with a low mileage, all original 1200 coupe.
