speedo problems

I have a "71 510 wagon that i am restoring, the speedometer was acting erratic and the cable was noisy. I pulled the instrument cluster, oiled the cable and now the sppedometer slowly pegged itself and has stayed there. The odometer is working fine, and the cable is not noisy now. I have looked on the webb and found that the speedo works by using a rotating magnet, so i am assuming that there is a break in a coil or something like that, can any give me suggestions? I would really like to get all tha gauges working.
thank hak

did you have a look at the gearbox end of the cable? might've broken off...
