I've got a new 21mm swaybar from Whiteline, still new in the box, doesn't fit on my CA equipped 1200. But will fit an A-series 1200 or 120Y.

Anyone in Sydney interested? I've got to chase up a custom one for my Green 1200 Sedan, and I'm trying to get some money back on it. Was ~$200 new (which it still is new).

Cheers,
Chris

The sway bar goes through an arc. making the front go up and down. You see it clearly in 1600s with SR20 engines. Under accelleration the front of the bar goes up.

With the 120Y bar, it's bent up at the front, and the CA18 is obviously a longer engine. In 120Ys and 1200s, the front splash guard needs to be cleared. And sway bay manufacturers only consider this. With the CA install, the splash guard is removed, and there is suddenly heaps of space in front of the engine. But sway bar manufacturers don't take this into account.

The 120Y bar hits on the front of the sump even at normal ride height, as does the modified Whiteline one that I got.

The 1200 one does not point up along the front edge, and is generally flat across it's length.

Stewart Wilkins has a special Whiteline number that allows them to make a swaybar similar to the 1200 one.

But I'm a bit annoyed that Whiteline sell 120Y swaybars as 1200 ones, when there are obvious differences between the two.

I'll go somewhere else to get mine made up. Whiteline have got enough of my money.

Hope this helps others.

just out of curiosity why did you go for an aftermarket sway bar?

i mean i undertand its probably becauase you wanted the best of everything for your car.. and it shows in the quality of the build of it...

but why would you pay $200 for a 21mm bar.... i paid $10 for my 20mm factory 120y bar...?

Why?

I outsourced the job, trusting Whiteline because I was in a rush to get it together near the end, and I payed the price. Every 1mm is a 10% increase in swaybar rate. and I knew that the 120Y bar didn't fit, so I had to trust an "expert".

I'm satisfied to use the bar for spare bar steel. I consider it a $200 gamble that I lost.

Win some.. lose some.. I'll spend more wisely next time.

you knew the 120y bar didnt fit??

ok so originally i thought u had purchased a whiteline 120y sway bar to use in a 1200... (thats why i asked why not just go the 120y factory bar)

but now im assuming you bought a whiteline 1200 bar which is infact shaped like a 120y bar... if this is the case i understand why your annoyed!

so you currently running the standard 1200 bar then?

Yep, that was the assumption.

I am currently running a standard 1200 one, with good condition Nissan rubbers and urethane fitted droplinks. It'll be ok for the street, but it won't be good enough for fast cornering on the track.

You are right. The 10% (for 120Y) or 50% (for 1200) increase would only be good for the fussiest of A-series powered 120Y/1200 owners, looking for a little more than the 120Y bar provides.

Out of interest, I noticed that the GX front sway bar is different to the standard 1200 one!

Yep, it is.
I have replaced all rubbers on my front suspention. When the suspention guys bought these sway bar rubbers they took what they could find and it was the utility rubbers. When putting the rubber over the sway bar we noticed that it is too small to fit all the way around it and had a gap up front on the rubber.
They then forcefully bolted the U joint to the body stripping thread, of course.
They rethreaded it and used larger bolts.

I am soon going to replace them MYSELF again with utility ones that I have modified with a round file to make the hole larger in the rubber to go all the way around.
Can anyone confirm if Nissan still sells the genuine rubbers that will fit 100% for the GX?
They can get rubbers but it must be ordered and I must pay a deposit.
