#1 A-series forklift dizzys
Freak Posted on: 2005/4/13 7:50
I was looking at the engine in the nissan forklift at work. It is an A-series. Appears to be older block with dizzy mounted back although the forklift wouldnt be that old. I was wondering about the dizzy though. It would be an electronic one I assume and with a regrapghing would work in car. Correct me if im wrong or give me answers.

Maybe i could switch theirs with my points one and theyd never know. Nah just kidding. Maybe a place that deals with forklifts though. Im sure there would have to be plenty of nissan forklifts that are wrecked but still have a electronic distributor.

alright .... spoke to 2 auto elecs today and the guys going to be tuning my sedan; out come is the bosch bluebird unit feral offers would be the best value for money you can do. better spark and easier to setup.
the pulsar one is a cheaper starting point but if something goes wrong parts are worth a fotune and not always readily available.
regraphing should be done on either to suit engine, cam, carb specs and the type of driving expecting to be done.
vacuum advance is niether here nor there as it really only comes into play when cruising lightly on the throttle.

looks like i'm going to have to start saving those hard earned dollars

You have to ask yourself what you want it for. If you want it to be a racer Yes if you want to turbo or supercharge and need the better spark Yes. You have to pay for what you want it for. Id be happy with just an n12 pulsar dizzy because its cheap to begin with and how often is it going to break and if it does stuff finding parts for it just buy another one and modify it. I wish we got electronic dizzys over here. It would make my decision about which one to use much easier.

fare enough, the pulsar ones a good cheap fix but for what i've spent/spending on the engine i'm going to hold out for a bosch unit. going for high reving and plenty of fuel to burn i'd like the stronger spark the next issue what coil to run with it ???? been told by the auto elec to stay clear of those little high energy coils and stick with the standard oil cooled high energy, less chance of it over heating and breaking down with high revs ??

coils arent meant to get too hot eg too hot to touch, if so its possible the one ure using is wrong for your dizzy. if you can get your hands on a Bosch product book with Coils in it, you can look up the N12 pulsar or find one to match your particular dizzy. The N12 coils are the same ones as used in some older Subaru models. I can get the numbers off mine if u want, as this is what John Cane did to my car and it has worked perfectly since.

ive been told the same thing, too much can burn the dizzys module!!bad..
also my engine rebuild cost me 2grand (incl headwork) and i was happy to upgrade from points/JayCar HEI kit to the cheap N12 dizzy.. although i was this -><- close to sending feral my bluebird dizzy. (still planning on doing it one day though) for now its in a friend's rusting datto 1600.

p.s im keen to see a pic of one of these A-series forklifts.
