I was thinking of putting a high energy ignition kit and programmable ignition kit on my a12 engine
What advantages do I get from it and is it worth wail (it will only cost me $120 for broth the kits)

thanks

These kits are ok, but no where near a Hatech etc...

Major advantage is no points and a semi-customiseable ignition curve (Start RPM, finish RPM and total advance). You need another programmed IC for a turbo car.

Not bad for the money outlaid - so ong as you know what you're doing when it comes to electronics...

Wait till you guys see my Do-It-Yourself Distributorless Coilpack Ignition system for A-Series.

Coming Soon!!!

Halteck is a programable computor if your running efi its a grouse thing. If you are running carb get one of ferals distributors they are realy reliable & there not too expencive for what you get www.datrats.com.au that where you will find him

Whoops! Typo - I meant Haltech...

With a Haltech (on any engine mind you), you can program your ignition curve however you want over whatever RPM range you want and at what manifold pressure you want. It doesn't have to be a linear curve like the Jaycar kit is.

For example - with the Haltech, you program in ranges of 1000RPM (this is for a haltech E6 by the way - I'm not sure about later models).
In that range of 1000RPM you can program the amount of advance (up to 50deg BTDC!!!) over the full range of manifold pressure/vacuum.

With the Jaycar kit you only have the option of the RPM value when the advance starts, when it finishes and the total advance over this range which then results in a linear (straight line) curve. Addtionally, it only has a vacuum on/off switch to modify the curve according to engine load.

Really, it comes down to flexibiltiy of the programming and how much control over the enigne timing that you want. If you want the works, it comes at a price...

As you said - the Jaycar kit will set you back $120 - a Haltech ignition only, loom, module, etc... would set you back 10 times that.

Confused the crap out of ya yet? I have to go lie down now...

Mechanical Injection? I thought we were talking ignition?

There was a Hilborne injected A14 sprint car on ebay recently - $9000+!!!!

It is an electromagnetic pickup. It essentially produces an electrical pulse every time a ferrous (metalic) object passes through or past it.

A 4 tooth wheel (1 per cylinder) and a hall effect sensor replace your points in this kit (optional - you can use points if you want). The main advantage is that it removes wearing parts (points) from your dizzy, allowing it to live longer.

My distributorless system I'm currently developing does away with points, Dizzy cap and rotor button by way of a hall effect device and a coilpack from an import motor.

You would never have to change ingition 'consumeables' again!
