Hi Dave,
the Corolla diff is from KE30-KE55 - they all look the same to me! But the one we use is an Aussie made BorgWarner diff fitted because of our local content/assemble laws in the 70's, so they probably won't be the same diff in the NZ Corollas.

In Aus they had 3.9, 4.1, and 4.3 ratios. They are about 3" wider housing - almost perfectly matches track after Stanza or similar strut swaps. Spring mounts line up OK on the 1200 springs. I won't go into too much detail because they're probably not available over there unfortunately.

Thanks Harry,
I have a sneaking suspicion that the KE20 diff may be very close and perhaps some further investigation is warranted.
Failing that an H165...
Cheers

Hey guys, i have a ke10 it has a jap diff, same (different width) as the datsun1200 jap diff and centres are interchangeable, also ke20 is the same cause i have just put in a locked ke20 centre. i think the axle lengths vary between them all. You can also use a 120y jap diff centre. But i think they are all H145 diffs. Ke30 early is H145 jap, then some assembled in aus used the borgwarner diff mentioned here, i can measure centre of leaf to leafs for the different models for people if they wish. Ke20 an Ke10 are different stud pattern than the ke30 though. Ke30 and on same as datsun.

Hi Sean,
Do I read you correctly here when you say that the early Jap KE 30 diff head is H145? If so then they must be a straight bolt in to the 1200 housing?
Has anyone else heard of this? I guess that it is quite possible that the same Japanese manufacturer was used for both Toyota and datsun.
Cheers
Dave

Pretty damn sure, just that a mate of mine said he used a 120y jap centre in his ke30, and i have used a ke20 jap diff in my ke10, so i guess toyota and nissan shared manufacturers for their components. For example i use 280zx struts in my ke10, they bolt up perfectly to ke20 steering arms, which just happen to bolt onto ke10 ball joints. I love japanese cars!

Uhhh, didnt they both get made by Borg Warner like someone mentioned earlier......derp....

120Y's and KE's of around the same years used borgs (except for the 4 dr wagon which uses a H145 centre according to the one I pulled out from underneath the one at the wreckers). If you unbolt a plate to look at your gears you've more than likely got a borg. If you unbolt the carrier and axles to look at your gears, youve got a jap diff.

And it probably differs between jap assembled and aus assembled vehicles. Buggers me, if it bolts in it bolts in.

A bit late for a comeback. 6 years is a bit late.
