That's a great idea. The Rover V8 will be great and easier to fit in than a 1UZ-FE and maybe a little lighter.I still like the idea about the 1UZ-FE and supra gearbox. The automatic is good but I'm more into the manual thing. Is there a manual 5 speed 0r 6 speed that can fit to this(rover)engine?
What would be a suitable diff, brakes etc to put on this car if I decide to put the rover v8 or any other BIG engine?

I realize that there is a lot of people talking about whether the VGs.There has to be at least 1 good VG engine among the whole 'crew'.Anyone know which one is?

i'm pretty sure there is a kit from dellows automotive or castlemaine rod shop here in australia to mount the supra 5spd to the rover V8. google is your friend here.
rover V8 weighs the same as a 1UZ - 185kg.

yeah note that weight is sans inlet manifold for both engines.
there are so many inlet manifold options for both these engines, i feel it would be less correct to quote them with their std setups. i reckon the 1UZ would fit - it'd be tight, but it's a better engine choice IMO.

The Rover, on the other hand is a chunk of good old American engineering. The 3.5L engine is little more than a 63 Buick 215 with Lucas electrics. It was also served up as the engine option in Pontiac Tempests from memory, & the same engine, with more conventional wedge heads & an extra four head blots per side was offered in some Oldsmobile models. [For Aussie readers, the BOP mentioned in an earlier post is Buick- Oldsmobile- Pontiac.] These are great engines, but might be a bit long in the front part, making them hard to fit into a Sunny [B310] engine bay. My 1968 "Petersens Complete Book of Engine Swaping" says that they are 28 inches long & only 320 lbs weight in a ready to run state. Sounds like it might be worth having a good think about it..

hehe... i realise this would be sh!t for circuits, but why not stick a 302 windsor in there... a bloke did it in a 120y at summernats!
i like to hear all these ideas of sticking v8s into little cars. makes me wish you could do unlimited modifications in the junior sedan class . heard good things about 1uz-fe's, anyone who reads street machine will remember a eh ute with a supercharged 1uz-fe under the bonnet, and in supercharged guise it would get 11l/100k round town, making i think around 260rwk - i understand that fuel economy isn't an issue, though it does say a lot about the engine.castlemaine rod shop sells conversion kits to fit supra boxes behind a blody lot of engines. i'd be interested to follow the build-up of such a beast, what sort of costs would you be looking at for the engine (1uz-fe and rover v8)... could end up with a few sunnys lying around!

Yeah.... I think I'm gonna try the 1uz-fe and supra v160 gearbox.I just get so excited thinking about it.It would make a great quarter mile racer. And that website that pro-240c recommended has really great info on low to add superchargers and stuff to the 1uz.I don't really know how much the 1uz-fe and supra box would cost and I know by the time I'm ready to do this project the prices will drop a little, but does anyone know the price of this engine and gearbox?

I'm telling you, if you want something extreme the turbo Buick 3.8L V-6 would give you more than any 1UZFE could dollar for dollar. These engines are easy to get 500+ hp from. If you're worried about weight I would suggest a browse at TA Performance they make a super strong and redesigned all aluminum block and heads for these engines that would substantially cut down the weight compared to a V-8. If you're really serious about building something "extreme" I hope you have some $$$ to spend. You'll need chassis reinforcement, safety equipment, and a bullet proof drive line if you plan on dragging it at all. Don't forget about breaking parts and having to replace them. I can't imagine a Supra gearbox is very affordable/common nor any parts for the 1uz-fe which doesn't have barely any aftermarket support, especially in the US. And if you want to drag race it and be consistent/competitive you'll never get there with a manual transmission. That's my .02
