I picked up some struts from a sunny which looked about right except that in trying to fit them I find the bolt holes on the bottom are at 80mm centres whereas the old ones are at 75mm centres. Should I just elongate the holes in the struts so they line up?

I couldn't be bothered going back to pick-a-part to get the extra bits so I tried elongating the holes in the struts. It took about an hour of filing to get them right. They went in OK and the car drives well. It does sit about 20mm higher but this is not a bad thing as I sometimes carry long lengths of timber (7.2m is my record) and the extra travel will come in handy.
