Sadly, it's not going to happen, at least not in NSW.
Unless the regulations have changed, a hot rod is defined as being a car, of American origin [with specific exceptions] that was manufactured up to the 1948 model year, that was originally constructed with a separate body & chassis.

None of our Datsuns can possibly meet the criteria. As for geting away with the regulations, i suggest that a quick chat with the registration Nazis will change your mind about that. The only catagory that allows the relaxation of some requirements is 'club' registration & the usage restrictions are substantial, to the point that many can't handle the limitations & opt for full rego with all the engineering reports & compliances. [& cost]

The Hemi belongs in the '33 coupe & the little KB10 deserves to have an engine thay actually fits the engine bay. I thought about the Hemi in the Datsun, but one look at the size of that Hemi, & i just forgot all about that idea pronto.

You are being nuts...

The pricetag starts at 50k.

You'd be better off buying a Porsche Boxter and Turbo it I think that'll be my next project, after some serious savings.

Boxters can be had 2nd hand for under 50k second hand

BTW...I might have another dream in the time it takes me to save up..

Was almost going to post a thread almost exactly the same last nite. A little different though. The question is could we make up our own cahssis suspension and all that like the hotrodders. Pretty much a datto body with all the running gear of a hotrod. Registered as a hotrod you could get away with murder in terms of having to meet regualtions.

This could be an idea for yo Dodgeman. Your little 1000coupe sitting on a full chassis with a hemi under the hood, and street legal. Id love that.v8 power.

RB20 sucks. get an SR20 - all the silvia boys that have changed their SRs for RBs have sold them and bought another SR.

is this what you mean?

So you want to make a fibreglass kit car of a datsun variety and then put it on a custom chassis so you can fit any engine in it?

you would still have trouble fitting the RB series of morot fit without the rear of the block hitting your knee in the cabin.....

you may be better off building a tough 1200 coupe with a SR FJ or CA motor than an RB, they are big straight sivxes with alot of weight, would only be good for straight line speed, like at the drags.....
