youd get 200hp easy at the fly with an A14 twin carbs little head work (inlet ports , twin springs)54/86 cam and stage 1 NOS kit and EI....
and would be reasonably reliable too.......
the reason why you use an A series because they just sound so fantastic and cheap to repair replace...forget the chook cookers

69hp -> a12 engine
600hp -> fuel pump
550hp -> Front Mount Intercooler
600hp -> HKS Turbo
1200hp -> fuel line
------------
3019hp ...Did I do the maths right...

I don't see the problem with getting 200bhp (somewhere around 150bhp at the wheels) from a turbo A14. That was the target I would have been aiming for with my turbo A12, if I ever got around to building it! And having talked extensively to guys who used to race sports 1300s, I don't see why it would be a hand grenade.

But it would need to be a well designed and built system, with a well suited turbo, good manifolding and port work, and a suitable cam. Forged pistons are a must (it will be a hand grenade with cast pistons!) and the usual prep work on the bottom end. I wouldn't have thought it was an unrealistic expectation in intercooled EFI form.

Just to throw some cold water on this hot topic,

Quote:

A14 Nissan engine with A15 crank bored to 78 mm (1568cc) Forged Pistons,
Nitrated crank, Race prepped rods ARP Rod bolts, Full engine balance, Nismo lifters, Nismo high volume oil pump, 82 Degree cam, High ported head with Nismo valve springs and stainless steel valves, Steel light weight flywheel with Nismo clutch p/plate and solid centre button clutch, hand made interference sand bent headers, Wolf3D Engine management system with twin DCOE 45mm throttle bodies and HEI Ignition. Produces 165HP @ 7500 rpm and 118 Ft lbs at 5800 RPM.

This engine has been extremely reliable and has consistently out qualified and beaten larger more sophisticated engines in the under 2 litre sports sedans and still hold a number of lap records below is a summary of 3 years of full competition

Racing in 1996, 1997 & 1998
From 61 race starts (not inc reverse grid races) 54 podium finishes 28 of them race wins.
From 24 qualifying sessions 15 pole positions.
Twice national champion and once 1st runner up .
State champion once and runner up twice. Class B winner 3 times.

Steve Newings 1200 coupe race car ad

As an outright contender this car was "NATIONAL" champion - (thats all under 2 litre sports sedans in OZ) against 2 litre cosworth engines and buckets of SR20 powered vehicles of all descriptions. This car with its 165HP @ 7500 rpm and 118 Ft lbs at 5800 RPM managed to wipe them on most circuits even the fast Phillip island circuit occasionally.

It must be his horses were Clydesdales and a lot of the quotes being bandied around here are miniature shetland ponies

This engine made 105 bhp per litre. A very good (In fact race winning) figure for a two valver.

Dont forget to see Steve newings last under 2ltr winning car in zoom and some other mags if anyone questions his abilities.
As for 200 hp NA from an A series I can only see it happening with a custom modded twin cam head or the pulsar sohc as used in some speedway a12 engines running alcohol, crazy compression and 11,000rpms.

lol, very true. Sounds like an awesome engine, 165hp in a well sorted Datsun 1200 makes a very fast little race car.
People get carried away with trying to get huge hp, what they need is to sort the chassis out, and actually see how challenging it is to drive a 1200 with 'only'
165hp at IT'S limit first.

i need to get 200-250hp out of an a14,
While all of this has been going on i have been concentrating on the higher output figure as the original question was about how to get 200 to 250 horsepower from an A14.
At that higher figure it would need to develop over 178 hp per litre, blown. Thats a very big ask for a small, two valve, pushrod economy engine & as has been illustrated in Ferals post, it isn't necessary if the car is engineered right & driven well.

With the right mods, lots [& LOTS] of boost & a good dose of nitromethane, i believe that it can be achieved,.... briefly.

roughly 130hp at the crank, who knows what losses on what dyno, etc.

who cares I might add, over 100hp at the treads in a light arse car is cool regardless.
