Don't ever buy retreads!!! There is more to a tyre than the depth of the tread. Personally I have always been a big fan of Bridgestone. Every set I've had have been a good compromise of grip and longevity. But they are dearer than most brands.

$75 for retreads

Why on earth would anyone consider retreads? Especially when the brand new Nankings are only $20.00 dearer.

Occasionally tyre dealers will have second hand tyres out the back. These have 80 - 90% of tread left and are sold really cheaply as the previous owner has upgraded to something larger or better. I bought 4 Michelin 175x13's from the local Beaurepaires for only $140.00. Fitted and balanced for the price. Found them to be pretty good.

I run 175/70 r13s. When I had no money I ran cheapo Barrums and Silerstones. $59 each. This time I went all out. Well not really decided to pay an extra $15 for bridgestones. Feel much nicer too. The silverstones were actually a good tyre. Wore good and gave reasonable handling. They are still on the back serving out their days tortured of course.

When I first bought the datto it was running 165/75/13 of a decent brand. (Bridgestones) And they were pretty slippery. The extra 10mm made a huge diff. Also im sure though you could run a skinnier tyre but opt for a better tyre to accomodate.

Yeah The NanKengs sound good for the price.

I got GT Radials for my Pulsar, and they've lost their loving feeling already. Not great tyres. I would'nt use them again.

Based on your wheel/tyre selection, I'm guessing that you can't get good branded tyres in those sizes?

Like good brakes..good tyres are cheap insurance.
